Description

UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEIcE.
HERMANN J'. STORM, 0F BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF LUDWIG J. BOSSERT, 0F BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
ONE-HALF T0 SASI-I-IIOLDER.
To all whom tmag/ concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN J. STORM, citizen of the United States, and resident of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash- Holders, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in anti sash rattlers and refers to that class of devices which are adapt.- cd to be secured to the casing of a window frame and in a way to engage the face of the sash and hold it against the parting strip or stop of the casing.
It is the object of my invention to provide a simple and inexpensive form of anti sash rattler which may be readily secured to a window casing to yieldably engage the sash and prevent it from shaking and so that the same may be raised and lowered with respect to the said device; to construct the invention so that it can be readily adjusted to regulate the pressure against the sash as required and toafford such freedom for its movement as may be necessary and further to include in said anti sash rattler a roller for engagement with the sash so that the same may be freely moved with respect to the device and without marring the sash, and nally to design the invention so that it may be made largely of sheet metal and wire which may be `cut and formed in an automatic machine ready for assembling.
With the above and other objects in view my invention resides and consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts shown upon the accompanyin sheet of drawings forming a part of this specification, upon which similar characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several figures, and of which,
Figure l, shows a perspective view `of a portion of a window casing and sash having one of my improved anti sash rattlers secured to said casing and in a manner to hold the sash as suggested. Fig. 2 is a hori- Zontal cross section through the casing and sash shown in Fig. l and illustrating the anti sash rattler in a top plan view and applied to the easing and sash. Fig. 3 is a detached side View of the invention, and Fig. 4 is a detached front elevation.
Referring in detail to the characters of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led November 1, 1913.
Patented June 9, 1914. serial No. 798,699.
reference marked upon the drawings 5 represents a window frame, 6 the window sash and 7 a stop strip forming a part of the window casing and arranged against the face of the edge of the sash, all of which construction may be of the usual or any preferred formation since my invention is well adzpted to most any form of frame and sas 1.
My improved form of anti sash rattler is preferably constructed of metal and is formed of three parts. The main portion of the frame of the device which I have indicated as 8 is cut out and shaped to form an angle piece the two members 9 and l() of which are disposed at substantially a right angle to each other The member 9 represents the base of the angle piece and is that portion which in practice is secured to the stop 7 of the window casing. This base includes two slots 11--11 through which screws 12 are passed for the attachnient of the plate to the window stop. These slots obviously permit'the device to be adjusted with respect to the face of the window sash so as to better provide for the amount of lost room that there may be between the sash and the window stop. In practice the outwardly extended arm portion 10 of the angle piece is constructed to yield slightly and thus form a tension for the roller against the sash. This arm is rovided with a central opening 13 across which the roller pin 14 passes and in which the roller 15 operates upon the pin. The outer edge portion of the arm is split vertically and the extreme outer edge portion 1G is disposed forward to form a pocket for the end of the pin the said pin lying upon the face of the fiat portions 17 and 18 of the arm. This pin is headed or riveted 1n the case 9 so as to hold it in position. The roller may be formed of either metal or wood as preferred and obviously serves to engage the face of the sash and form a free operative engagement of the same with the anti sash rattler which snugly engages the face of the sash and yieldably holds it against the` parting strips 19.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An anti sash rattler of the class described, the same 'comprising a sheet metal angle plate one arm of which is provided with arm, a portion of said yieldable arrn loeingV pressed forward of the remaining portion of the arin to form a bearing, apin one end orp which is secured 1n said bearing and the 10 other end in the attached arm, and a roller operatively mounted upon the pin and adapted to engage the Window sash and hold it in place.
Signed at Bridgeport in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut this 31st 15 day of October A. D., 1913. I
HERMANN J. STORM. Witnesses L. J. BossEim C. M. NEWMAN.
