tenaces.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it linown that l, lhnwrs' Annen Conan, a citizen of the United States, residing at Helena, in the county of Lewis and Clark and State of Mont-ana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment and Cover Supporters; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rFlic present invention relates to covers or bags for protecting articles of clothing,
. and has for its purpose to provide a device dii of that character for use in connection with clothes hangers and which will edectively uard the contained garments against moths, dust, dampness, and exterior contact.
A further purpose of the invention is to provide a device of this character which readily permits of the insertion and removal of the garments without folding or creasing; and wherein the garment will hang without liability of rutiling or crushing.
FVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like numerals designate like arts in all the views: Figure 1 is a front e evation of the device, and shows the same opened for inf serting or removing the garment. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the protector holder per se. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the means for detachably connecting the holder members.. Fig. t is a detail view showing the hinge connection between the movable bar and the supportin t member. Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of a modiided form of the invention; and Fig., tl is a sectional view taken on the line of Fi 5.
Referring vto the construction in further detail, the protector holder or supporting frame consists of a bar 1 providing a supporting member, and which is constructedV to provide a suspending hook 2,' and a sup porting hoch 3 for the hanger i of the garment A. A side member 5 is formed continuous with the supporting member 1, and at their points of connection said supporting and side bars are looped to provide a vertically disposed length or section 6 forming a hinge member for the coiled end 7 of Specification of Letters lt'ntent.
appelen-ian mea august io, rara.
Patented J une 2, 1914.. anni no. veniva a second side bar 8 that is disposed opposite the side bar 5 with respect to the suppertingmem'ber 1.
The bar d is adapted to have swinging movement on the supporting member 1, to the end that the protecting covering may be opened for the insertion and removal of the garment, as will be further explained. The two side bars 5 and d are adapted to have detachable connection with the supporting member i' for applying 'and removing the protector covering and closing the same to infold the garment. To this end a plate 9 is mounted on the free end of the supporting member 1 and is provided with notches 10 and 1l to receive the free ends 12A and 18 of the side bars 5 and 8,-respectively, after the manner illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3.
rlhe protector covering consists of a fabric of any suitable material arranged into two folds 14e and 15, having their adjacent upper edges 16 and 17 piped to receive the side members 5 and 8 of the support, as' shown in Fig. 1. rlhe folds 1d and 15 are united along the side edge 18 by stitching or otherwise, and on the opposite side are adapted to be detachably connected through the medium of a number of French glove fasteners 19 arranged at suitable intervals.
.lhe covering in its entirety is adapted to be readily applied and removed from the support, with ythe object that said covering may be removed when desired, and mean--` while another covering substituted in placel thereof.
ln the modified form illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, the construction comprises a supporting member 2O formed of a metal strip adapted to be suspended by the hook 21, and having a hoolr 22 for supporting the garment hanger. A side bar 23 1s formed as a con tinuation of the supporting member 20, and at their points of connection said bars and 23 provide a hinge member 2d receiving the pin 25 on which is mounted to swing a second side bar 26 having the functions of the swinging bar d of the previous construction. rllhe end of the supporting member 20.
has welded or otherwise secured thereon an inverted llshape member 27 providing a pain of hoolrs 28 and 29 adapted to receive the free ends of the side members 23 and 26, respectively'. With this construction the side members 23 and 26 are adapted to have threaded or athered thereon the piped edges of the abrio folds, as with the protid lldb
litt) this construction, likewise, said covering 1s adapted to be readily removed and replaced at will.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangement of parts Without departing from the spirit of my invention, and thereforev v1. do not Wish to be limited to such features e2;F cept as may be required by the claims.
I claim: y
1. A holder for garment protectors comprising a member providing a support; a side member Jformed integrally with the supporting member and providing a hinge bearing; a second side member constructed With a coiled end hinged on said bearing and adapted to swing open; and a notched plate secured to the free end of said supporting member; both of said side members adapted to have detachable engagement with said notched plate, substantially as described.
2. A holder for garment protectors comprising a bar providing a support and constructed With a suspension hook and a hook for a hanger; a side bar formed continuous with said supporting bar, and the connecting portions of said bars providing a hinge bearing; a second side bar constructed with a coiled end hinged on said bearing and adapted to swing' open; and the free ends of said side bars adapted to have detachable connection With the free end of said supporting bar, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I aiX my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
