To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, LEON I. TABER, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Mount Hermon, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Hair-Brushes and Mirrors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to toilet articles and more particularly to a hair brush having a mirror mounted in the back thereof.
An object of my invention is to provide a hair brush having a mirror slidably mounted in the back of said brush whereby it may be drawn out to permit the mirror to be used.
Another object of my invention is to provide a novel means of securing the mirror in the back of the brush.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in such details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in.wh-ich- Figure 1 is a View in elevation of the back of a hair brush carrying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the mirror extended for use, and Fig. 3 is a detailed view of a portion of the brush showing the mirror extended and looking at the face of said mirror.
In reducing my invention to practice it will of course be understood that the hair brush 1 may be of any desired construction such as is now in general use. In the back of the brush is provided a shallow recess 2 of such size and shape as to readily receive the mirror 3, which should have its back lie approximately flush with the surface of the back of the brush.
It is pointed out that the back of the mirror is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the face thereof being turned inwardly toward the bottom of the recess 2. If desired any form of advertising may thus be placed on the back of said mirror. A finger nail recess 1 may be formed in one end of the slab of mirror in order to permit it to be readily withdrawn. Other recesses 5 and 6 are positioned respectively near the outer and inner ends of the mirror at one side thereof as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. These recesses are designed to receive a spring catch 7 which is fastened in any desired manner to the back of the brush 1 as shown. When the mirror 3 is pushed into its closed position the catch 7 engages the recess 5 thus holding the mirror locked shut. On the other hand when the mirror is to be withdrawn for use the spring 7 snaps in the same manner into the recess 6 as illustrated in Fig. 2, thus holding the mirror in a raised position so that it may be readily used as shown at Fig. 3 in which the face of the mirror is illustrated.
It will be seen that this is a very simple and practical device which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a low cost. It is particularly adapted for the use of travelers who must economize room and will be found handy for such persons.
I desire it to be understood that slight changes in the construction and in the arrangement and combination of the several parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention provided such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination with a frame provided with a longitudinal slot a mirror slidably mounted in said slot, the back of said mirror lying flush with the back of said frame, means mounted on said frame and having engagement with said mirror for holding the latter in a predetermined adjusted position.
