PIN-POINT GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may omwern Be it known that I, ALBERT Pnrir, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Point Guards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in pin point guards and more particularly to guards for hat pin points, and is especially designed to cover the points of hat pins that protrude from the hat and thereby become a menace to any person who may come in contact therewith. As is well known these protruding pin points have been the cause of many painful and dangerous accidents, and the fact that legislation in many States is trying to overcome this menace to the public welfare, proves the need of a device that will afford protection and this is the main object of my invent-ion. Further, in combination with a suitable design it will serve the purpose of an ornament as will be hereinafter shown.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lever with the spring attached. Fig. 3 more clearly shows the inner construction of the invention the body portion being more ornamental as above stated in the specifications.
Referring to the drawings, a represents the body portion having a central bore extending lengthwise from the base nearly its entire length and being of a size suitable to accommodate the pin 79.
f is an opening extending transversely through the body portion from the side thereof in which the lever b is movably secured by the hinge-like projections g.
c is a spring one end of which is secured to the lever while the other end engages the outer portion of the body.
it represents a hole through the lever 5 through which the pin passes when the guard is adjusted to the pin and the pressure of the lever upon the pin causes the pin to bend slightly and locks the bodv securely to said pin.
Figs. 1 and 3 show the pin guard locked to the pin, and the guard may be easily removed by pressing the lever at the end marked 1) which holds the spring 0.
In general terms the invention consists in a lever Z) which is constructed and adjusted in such a manner that when pressed upon a portion of the pin Within the body the pin is bent or sprung sufliciently to hold the pin guard firmly in position from which it can i not be removed without releasing said lever.
Slight changes may be made without changing the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A pin point guard comprising a body portion having a central bore of equal diameter extending longitudinally thereof nearly its entire length for the reception of a pin; a clear opening extending transversely through said body intermediate the ends thereof; and an L-shaped locking lever pivotally mounted in one side of said opening having one of the legs thereof extending through said body portion, the other leg extending outwardly from the body, and a V-shaped spring one end of which is secured to the inner side of said outer leg, and the other end resting upon the outer portion of said body: said locking 1ever having an elongated opening therein for the passage of the pin and adapted to bite and bend the pin to lock the pin against withdrawal from the body.
