To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NATHAN ROITMAN, a citizen of the United States, andresident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to an improved barking or whistling toy, and consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.

The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and simple toy which is made of such durable materials that its parts will not be liable to derangement during ordinary use, and by means of which toy sounds in imitation of the bark of a dog may be produced.

In the drawings, Figure 1. is a side elevation of my improved toy; Fig. 2 is a sec tional side elevation of same; Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the operative parts; and Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on the line 4:4: of Fig. 1.

The numeral 1 indicates a hollow metallic body, preferably in the form of a recumbent dog having in its sides the soundemitting apertures 2 and having on its rear a free projecting cylindrical clamping ring 3.

The numeral 4: indicates a bulb of soft rubber having at its inner end an integral ring 5 of rubber reinforced by being thickened beyond the, thickness of the wall of said bulb, and which reinforced ring is harder than that of said bulb at.

The numeral 6 indicates a tubular metallic stem upon one end of which is an integral head or enlargement 7, the outer face of which head is countersunk.

Located upon the countersunk face of said head 7 is a common strip of thin rubber 8, which is stretched tightly across said countersunk head and extends over said head and over the adjacent outer surface of the said stem 6.

The stem 6 and rubber strip 8 are located within the hardened and thickened rubber ring 5 and are securely held in such position by the resiliency of the material acting to press said material firmly into contact with the underlying rubber strip and tubular stem; then the ring 5 is inserted in the clamping ring 3.

The operation is as follows: The bulb 4a is grasped in the operators hand and alternately squeezed and released, thereby forcing the air out of said bulb through the tubular stem, past the rubber strip 8 thereby rapidly vibrating said strip and producing a sound in imitation of the bark of a dog.

I claim:

The improved barking or whistling toy, comprising a hollow, metallic body in the form of a dog having a sound-emitting aperture, and having at its rear end a free projecting integral cylindrical clampingring; an inflatable bulb having at one end an integral hardened and thickened rubber clamping ring composed of material thicker and harder than the body portion of said bulb; a tubular stem having a countersunk head at one end; and a*vibrating strip of rubber stretched across said countersunk head and clamped between the body of said stem and the said hardened and thickened rubber clamping ring, and the latter inserted within the said metallic clamping I'llg' at the rear end of said hollow metallic b0 y.
