This invention has for its object the production of a novel, efficient, and durable knifecleanerfor cleaning simultaneously both sides of the knife-blade of any thickness.

My novel cleaner comprises flexible mate rial to embrace the blade of the knife, suitable abrasive or cleaning material, and a back, pressure upon which is exerted through the flexible material onto the knife-blade' Figure 1 in perspective shows a knifecleaner embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 a section thereof in which the thickness of the knife-blade is greatly exaggerated.

In the drawings, A represents a piece of flexible material, which may be felt, cloth of any kind, or leather, and preferably the material will be in tubular form, as represented in Fig. 1. By making the flexible material as a tube the escape of cleansing-powders or cleaning material laterally from the flexible material is obviated. Inside the flexible ma-. terial I apply suitable abrasive or cleaning surfaces at b. These surfaces may and preferably will be of felt or other flexible material, with which is incorporated any usual emery or other abrasive or polishing powder. These strips of felt may be glued or otherwise attached to the flexible tube A, and preferably the width of the strips to and b will be less than the Width of the tube 'A when the inner faces of the two strips contact with the knife-blade. Such construction enables spaces a to be left, in which may enter and settle any abrasive material that may be worked off fromor out of the strips a b. p

I have herein shown a back or presser as applied to both sides of the tube A, the presser B being represented as a hollow box, that it may receive emery or any other abrasive material d. The box has a suitable cover (1'. The upper side of the tube has a series of holes that register with holes in the upper strip a, and the emery or other abrasive material may pass from said holes either onto the knifeblade or upon the upper surface of the strip 1). It will be understood that the strips a and t might be emery-cloth or any equivalent substance. r

7 It will be obvious that the emery or other powder might be sprinkled throughout the length of the interior of the tube on the faces of the strips 0 and b and that in such event instead of the hollow back B, I might use a .solid back.

To use this device, the blade of a knife may be inserted between the two strips a b, and pressure exerted on either back B or D then uppermost will cause the strips 0. and b to clamp theknife-blade with more or less force While the user, having the handle of the knife in his hand, moves the same longitudinally to effect the proper cleansing or polishing thereof. The backs or blocks B and D constitute stifi bodies applied to the exterior of the flexible material or tube.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. A knife-cleaner comprising a piece of flexible material folded upon itself and strips of flexible material supplied with abrasive or cleansing powder secured to the opposite surfaces of said folded material, and a stiff body attached to the exterior of the folded material.

2. A knife-cleaner comprising a flexible tube and strips of flexible material supplied with abrasive or cleansing powder, and an attached stid body at each face of the flattened tube.

3. A knifecleaner comprisinga flexible material having a series of holes, and a stiff body adapted to receive abrasive'or cleansing ma terial to enter said holes and contact with the blade of a knife.
