' This invention relates to a toy gun, and it is *primarily an object of the invention to provide ja-device of this kind which, when fired, op- ;erates a whistle in lieu of detonating a cap or discharging a missile.

Another object of the invention is to provide a toy of this kind wherein the body of the toy carries one or more whistles and wherein the hand grip of the device is defiatable for sounding the whistle.

A further object of the invention is to pro vide a device of this kind including a revolving cylinder carrying a plurality of Whistles, each of a tone different from the others and wherein each of the whistles is selectively sounded.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

A defiatable handle I5 preferably fabricated of suitable rubber has its front end enlarged to provide suitable shoulders IS. The front end of the handle I5 is positioned within the cut-out l3 so that the flange M on the body In coacts with the shoulders I6 to insure a sturdy connectlon between the body and handle.

The body [U is also provided with a recess or chamber I! which is arranged forwardly of the cut-out l3, there being a partition 2| separating the cut-out l3 and recess 11. A pin or shaft It extends across the recess I1 and has its ends rotatably supported in the gun body Ill. Mounted on the pin I8 is a cylinder 19 provided with a plurality of spaced, parallel whistles 20, and each whistle 20 is of a different tone from the others.

'The partition 2! is provided with an aperture 2 2 and seated in the aperture 22 is a small openended tube 23. One end of the tube 23 projects into the handle [5 and is held therein by a flange 24. The other end of the tube 23 is bent back to define a flange 25 for preventing longitudinal shifting of the tube.

Each of the whistles 20 is provided with an inlet orifice 26 which is adapted to be moved into registry with the open-ended tube 23 as the cylinder I9 is revolved or rotated. The whistles 20 further include openings 21 for the egress therethrough of air. A. spring 28 is interposed between the front end of the cylinder l9, and the gun body It] for normally biasing the Whistle inlet orifice 26 to form an air-tight passage against the tube 23.

For manually-rotating the cylinder IS, a plurality of radially-disposed, spaced tabs 29 project from the exterior of the cylinder l9, the tabs 29 corresponding in number to the whistles 20 and the tabs are provided with suitable markings thereon indicating the different whistle tones.

In Figures 3 and 4, there is shown a toy gun provided with a single whistle 35, and comprises a body 36 having its exterior configuration resembling a six-shooter. The body '30 has a stationary or fixed cylinder 40 and the body 30 is provided with a socket 3| in its rear for re ceiving the front portion of a resilient handle 32, there being flanges 33 depending from the gun body 38 and coacting with shoulders 34 on the handle 32 for insuring a firm connection between the handle and gun body. A whistle 35 is supported on the gun body 30, and an openended tube 36 connects the handle 32 to the inlet orifice 31 of the whistle 35 for conveying air to the latter when the handle 32 is deflated or squeezed. An opening 38 is formed in the top of the gun body 30 and registers with the outlet orifice 39 of the whistle 35 for the egress therethrough of air.

From the foregoing, it will be apparent that a toy musical gun has been provided which, when fired, operates a whistle in lieu of detonating a cap or discharging a missile.

In Figures 1 and 2, a plurality of different toned whistles 26 are provided, and to sound any of these whistles the user need only exert a lefthand thumb pressure (broken lines) on the tabs 29 so as to thereby depress the spring 28 and simultaneously revolve the cylinder IS in either direction until the inlet orifice 26 of the Whistle 20 registers with the open-ended tube 23. Then,

as the handle I5 is deflated, the whistle will sound.

In Figures 3 and 4, the toy gun is provided with a single whistle 35 which is sounded as the user deflates the resilient handle 32.

As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

1. In a sounding toy, a body having the form of a revolver including a frame and a barrel, a hand grip in the form of a collapsible bulb attached to the rear side of said frame, an air duct opening through the rear side of said frame and communicating with the interior of said hand grip, a cylinder mounted for rotation on a horizontal axis within said frame and having a circular series of bores opening longitudinally through the same adjacent the periphery thereof, and tubular whistles fitted in said bores and having different tonal characteristics, said whistles having tone sounding vents opening outwardly REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
