Description

March 9, 1948.
E. S. SlWlEC TOY Filed April 8, 1946 Patented Mar. 9, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TOY Eugene S. Siwiec, Chicago, Ill.
Application April 8, 1946, Serial No. 660,459
1 Claim. 1 r V The present invention relates to toys and has for its principal object the provision of a toy vehicle provided with a musical instrument which may play music as the toy is propelled upon the ground.
A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a rotatable platform supported upon the vehicle and upon which one or more figures may be positioned which may rotate with the platform to the accompanying music.
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying'drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this application, and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views: 7
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view through a toy vehicle, the view having been taken on line l-l of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 2 is a top plan elevational view of the toy.
Referring in detail to the present drawing there is shown therein ak vehicle including a body having upper wall H], a pair of spaced side walls I l and a rear wall [2. The body is supported by a pair of front wheels [3, supported upon axle l4, and a pair of rear wheels l5 supported upon rear axle l6.
Rigidly supported upon axle l6 and in an axial longitudinal relation therewith is cylinder I1 having a plurality of radial projections I8 upon its periphery for the purpose of actuating a plurality of tonal reeds l9, which are rigidly supported by sounding box 20, which is rigidly supported upon the inner face of rear wall l2 of the vehicle. 7
Rigidly supported by axle l6 and adjacent one end of cylinder I1 is pinion 2] which meshes with sprocket gear 2 2, the latter rigidly supported upon shaft 23 which is journaled within side walls H and above axle IS.
A rotatable platform indicated by 24 in Fig. 2 includes circular bottom tray 25 and a casing 26 resting upon said tray 25. The diameter of the vertical wall of said tray 25 is shorter than the diameter of said casing 26. .Annular flange 21 laterally projects from vertical wall of said tray 25, supporting said casing 26 and extending towards the vertical wall of the latter.
Arranged in a circle and adjacent the rim of said tray 25 is a plurality of rectangular openings 28 for receiving therewithin teeth of gear 22, said gear partially extends through wall In of the vehicle. Said'platform including tray 25 and casing 26 is supported upon vertical shaft 29, suitably supported within said upper wall III of the vehicle.
Rigidly supported upon casing 26 is figure of girl 30 and figure of lamb 3| following the former.
When the vehicle is moved along the ground by pulling, wheels l3 and IE will rotate, thereby imparting rotary movement to axle It. The projections l8 on cylinder I! which rotates with axle 16 will strike reeds [9 for vibrating the same, thereby causing predetermined music to play, sounding box 20 enhancing tonal vibrations of tonal reeds l9. Simultaneously with operation of music box 20 platform 24 is caused to rotate through pinion 2 l, gear 22 and the action of the latter with tray 25 through openings 28. Thus simulation will be imparted to figures 30 and 3| to the effect that they rotate not due to the mechanism but due to the music.
While there is described herein a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
A toy vehicle comprising a body including a top wall, a pair of spaced side walls and a rear Wall, an axle set within said side walls, wheels carried by said axle for imparting rotary movement to said axle when said wheels rotate, a cylinder rigidly carried by said axle in a coaxial relation therewith, a plurality of radial projections extending from said cylinder, a plurality of tonal reeds, a sounding box afllxed to said rear wall. one end of said reeds being disposed adjacent said cylinder for engagement with said projections for imparting vibratory movement to said reeds, a pinion rigidly afiixed to said axle, a gear meshing with said pinion, a platform disposed above said top wall for rotary movement thereupon, said gear extending through said top wall and engaging said platform for imparting rotary movement to the latter, and figures rigidly carried by said platform, said figures being adapted to rotate with said platform in simulation of the musical efiects engendered by said sounding box.
