UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE ELAM B. LONG AND CHRISTOPHER EISENH'ARDT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PA. I
IMPROVEMENT'IN TRUNDLE-TOVS.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,265, dated February 29, 1876; application filed I January 12, 1876.
any object.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of the toy, and Fig. 2 a rear view of the same.
The handle A is composed of a bar of suitable length, a pin, a, projecting from this handle near one end of the same, for carrying the driving-wheel B and ratchet-wheel D, which are arranged to revolve together on the said pin. On the'handle A is a projection, E, and to a pin on the top of this projection is adapted a disk, F, the latter being driven by the wheel B, through the intervention of suitable gearing.
In the present instance, motion is communicated to'the disk F by the ratchet-wheel D gearing into a cog-wheel, H, which turns on a pin on the projection E, and gears into pins m on the under side of the disk F, on which may be placed. a doll or dolls, representations of animals, or other objects attractive to children.
A crank-pin, e, on the driving-wheel B is connected by a rod, J, to a slide, I, adapted to embrace the handle A, so that on turning the said driving-wheel a reciprocating motion will be imparted to the slide, to which may be secured any amusing object.
In order to increase the attractiveness of the toy we secure to the bar A a spring, s, the end of which so bears on the teeth of the ratchet-wheel that on turning the latter a sound like that of a watchinans rattle will be given.
The toy is operated by grasping the outer end of the handle A, and pushing thedrivingwheel over the floor, table, or sidewalk.
We claim as our invention- 1. The combination of the driving-wheel B and ratchet-wheel D with the spring 8 and horizontal disk F, as and for the purpose set forth."
2. The combiuation ot' the handle A, driving-wheel B, connecting-rod J, and slide I, embracing the said handle,as set forth.
ln testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
