IMPROVEMENT IN TRUNDLING TOYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 203,624,-dated May 14, 1878; application filed February 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSIAS R. KING, of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Trundling Toy, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved trundling toy, taken on line m 00, Fig. 2; and Fig.2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish, for the amusement of children and for other purposes, a trundling toy, which, when propelled on the floor, moves a number of figures, so as to give them the appearance of their chasing each other, the same device being also applicable to be used as a sign for sporting and gun stores, the driving mechanism being then aclock-work or other mechanical means.
The invention consists of a toy in which figures are propelled by crank-shafts revolved by suitable pulley and belt connection with the axle or shaft of the supporting drivewheels or other driving mechanism.
In the drawing, Arepresents a box, which is placed on wheels B, when used as a trundling toy, and provided with a handle, by which children may move it, in the nature of a wheelbarrow.
On the axle of the supporting-wheels is placed a pulley, a, that connects, by a crossbelt, b, with a compound pulley, d, above,
which is again connected, by a number of cross-belts, d, with smaller pulleys e at either side of the same.
To the crank-shafts of the upper pulleys d and e are applied suitable figures O, with jointed limbs, that are pivoted to the ends of the crank-shafts, and set in motion by the revolving of the crank-shafts of the pulleys, so as to give the appearance of the figures chasing each other.
Any suitable figures, such as a deer and a dog chasing each other, or any other combination, may be'employed, according as the object for which the toy is used may require.
The device is moved on the floor by a handle attached to the box. The device may be used as a sign for sporting stores, in which case, in place of apropelling-axle, a clock-work, weight, or other means may be employed, so as to keep the figures continually in motion. The working mechanism is inclosed by the box, so as not to be injured by handling or exposure to the weather.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, of the handled box A on wheels B, the pulleys a d e, the belt I), and the figures O, the latter having jointed limbs pivoted to the ends of crank-shafts, as and for the purpose specified.
