Description

J 1935. J. KUSHNER 2,006,274
TOY
Filed April 5, 1954 6f" INVENTOR ATTOR N EY Patented June 25, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to toys and has for the primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character which will provide a variable tone whistle easily operated from a persons mouth and having a rotatable element driven by the air employed for operating the whistle so that said element in motion with the variable sounds affords maximum amusement.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view illustrating a toy constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation illustrating the same.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a tool provided in one end thereof with a mouth piece 2 and its opposite end closed by a plug or similar device 3. The tube I adjacent the plug is provided with an air port or opening 4 so that air forced into the tube by a persons mouth may escape from the tube against the open end of a cylinder 5. The cylinder 5 projects beyond one end of the tube 1 and has mounted therein a plunger 1, the stem 8 thereof extending exteriorly of the cylinder and terminates in a finger piece 9. By moving the plunger 1 in the cylinder variable whistling sounds will be produced. 6
A holder I0 is provided with an opening to receive the tube l and cylinder 5. The holder retains the cylinder and tube in proper relation and is provided with a bifurcated portion presenting spaced arms I l to which is journaled a 10 paddle wheel l2. The paddle wheel 12 is disposed above the port 4 so that the air after passing the end of the cylinder 5 will strike the paddle and cause rotation thereof.
1 Having described the invention, I claim:
A toy comprising a plate provided adjacent one end with closely related openings, a mouth tube frictionally engaging the walls of one of said openings and provided adjacent the plate with an air port, a cylinder frictionally engaging the 20 Walls of the other opening and having one end located close to the air port and paralleling the tube, said plate having a bifurcated portion to form spaced arms extending from the cylinder,
a paddle wheel journaled to said arms and located in the path of the air passing from the end of the cylinder from the air port, and a manually actuated plunger slidable in the cylinder.
JOHN KUSHNER.
