4IMPROVEMENT IN HAV-RACKS FOR WAGQNS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making parl; of the sanne.
To all who-m it may conccrir':
Be it known that I; S'rnrrrnx J. SMITH, of Farmington, in the county of Ontarioand State ofy New York, have invented certain new and -nsefnl 1mprovements in the Formation of Hay-Racks 1in' Wagons; and I do hereby declare thaty the fol'- lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof',
reference being had to the accompanying drawing,-
and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of thisspeciiication.
The nature of my invention vconsists in .the construction and arrangement of a hay-rack, and in the` manner of fasteningthe same to the bottom of the,
wagon-box.
' ln order to enable others skilled inthe art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring t0 the annexed drawings, in whichl Figure l is a transverse vertical section, and
Figure 2v is a plan vicwof my bay-rack.
A represents the wagon-box, in the bottom of which are secured metal boxes, a a.
- These boxes are placed in a line in the center of the wagon-box, and are constructed so as to form each two loops,.facing one each side of' the wagon-box, and each of these metal boxes is secured to the bottom of .'thc wagon-box by means of a bolt, e, in the center.
- In the loops of the metal boxes a a are inserted the lower ends of levers orarms B B, which rest upon the sides of the wagon-box, and the arms on each side ot' the wagon are connected by slats c c, forming the rack.`
of the wagorrbox A,they are notched, as shown in lig. 1, so as to tit on the edge thereof.
The inclination of the rack thus constructed isv readily regulated by the length of the bolt b'.
This rack is simple in construction, cheap, and can` readily be pnt np, or shelter.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
lhe hayrack B U, constructed as described, and attachedto the bottom of the wagon-box by means of the metal boxes a a and bolts b b, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I elaimfthe foregoing as my taken down and placed `under own, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
