IMPROVED STEP-LADDER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 44,39I, dated September 27, 1564.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEssE BooHER, 1 f Dayton, Montgomery county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ladders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description thereof, rtference being had to the accompanying drawing. making part of this specification.
M v invention is directed to a construction of ladder intended to combine the advantages of lightness with those of strength and economy of labor and material in manufacture.
The drawing is a perspective view ofa stepladder embodying my improvements, a portion of one of the stiles being removed to exhibit some of the details of construction.
Each style, A A', is grooved longitudinally on its outside to receive two cleats, B B. Each stile is also grooved transversely on its inner side to receive the steps C. Each of the steps is supported from below bya batten,D, whose upper edge enters a shallow groove in the nnder side of the step, and whose ends, passing through mortises in the stiles A A', are secured between the cleats B B by pins or screws E.
