Description

C. BROWN.
Carriage Standard. I No; 83.917. Patented Nov. 10, 1868.
cited anate CHARLES BROWN, OF ADRIAN, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND AARON Gr SALMON, SAME PLACE.
I Letters Patent No. 83,917, dated November 10, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-3S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BROWN, of Adrian, in the county of Lenawee, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Side-Strap and Corner-Iron and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in combining in onepiece the two side-straps with the corner-iron of the stake and bolster of wagons, and casting them out of malleable iron, or out of any other suitable metal.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
.In the drawings,
Figure 1 represents a side view of a wagon-stake and bolster with my combined side-strap and corner-iron placed in position.
Figure 2 represents a perspective view of my said combination when separated from the stake and bolster.
S represents the stake of a wagon;
T renresents the bolster;
A and O, the side-straps; and
B represents the corner-iron.
These three pieces are all connected together near their upper ends by means of thehon'zontal portions to and I), thus forming, as it were, an enclosing-flame, and, at the same time, a brace around the stake, the lower ends of the side-strap A and O and corner-iron B to be bolted firmly to the bolster, and their upper ends to the stake, as shown in the drawings, the object being to construct a cheaper, stronger, and practicable yet durable combined side-strap and corner-iron in place of those heretofore used in separate pieces.
Having thus described my invention,
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters fPa-tent, is
The use and manufacture of the side-straps A and 0, combined with the corner-iron B by means of the portions (6 and b, substantially as set forth and described.
