TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. YAGER, of Trenton, in the county of Butler,- and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Carriage-Step; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to a novel construction and arrangement of the step, so called, to a buggy or other carriage or vehicle, whereby simplicity, cheapness, and efiiciency are obtained, as will be apparent from the following detail description, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in which the figure is a-side elevation of a carriage-step made according to the present invention, with a portion in central vertical section.
A, in the drawings; represents one section or foot-piece of the carriage-step, which, by means of braces and stay-rods, B, is secured to the under side of the carriage body, represented at O. D, the other section or foot-piece of the carriage-step, secured to one and the lower end of a stem or rod, E, arranged to move up and down within averti'cal tube or sleeve, F, constituting or forming a part of the first step, section A, so that it can be brought to a position directly under the said step-section A, where, by means of a spring-latch or catch, G, secured to the back or rear side of step-section A, it isheld from falling; it being held, when lowered therefrom, so as to form a step below the step-section A, as shown in red lines in the drawings, by resting through its stud or piece a, secured to the upper .end of its stem, E, in the notch b of the upper end of the tube or sleeve F, on which such stem is arranged to move as has been hereinabove stated.
By my improved carriage-step above explained, simplicity, cheapness, and compactness are obtained, as is obvious without any further description.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the two step-sections A and D, the one fixed and the other movable, when arranged together substantially as and for the purpose described.
