CAP.
1,092,429. Specification of Letters Patent. Patenten Apr. '7., tore..
\ Application tiled March 27, 19/13. Serial No. 757,197.
To all whom. it mf/j/ concern.' I lle it known that I, Isaac CnN'rNna, ofthe city of Toronto, in the Province ofOntario, Canada7 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following` is a slneitication.
This invention relates to improvements 1n cloth caps provided with stitlened peaks and my object is to devise a'cap of this kind which can be drawn down firmly on the head without b.indinr disagreeably on the forehead and which -will readily adapt itself to several differentsizes of head so that fewer sizes of cap need be carried by a retailer to tit his customers.
I attain my objectby means of the con struction hereinafter describe-d and illustrat-ed in thc accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a it'ore-and-aft Section of my improved cap. Fig. Q a plan view of the under side of the same showing; a slight modification in which the front ofthe sweat band is cut ai'ay.
In the drawings like numerals of reference indicate corresponding` parts in the ditfercnt figures.
The cap 1 is in general of ordinary construction and is provided with the sweatband Q and the peak 3. The peak is provided-with the sti llener Il. In the ordinary cap the rearward arc-shaped edge of the stillicner meets the lower edge o'l' the. front of the sweathand. In my cap a crescent-.shaped piece is removed from the rearward edge of the stille-ner which now followsthe heavy dotted line 5. (See Fig. 2.) The 'top and peak are sewed together along this line leaving the cresceit-shaped piece (3 of soft cloth behind the line ol stitching,
crably secured at its lower edge, to the inner edge of this` crescent-shaped prece. This crescent-shaped piece Vbeing,i soft and more or less yielding` makes the cap easy to wear and easily stretchable to fit dill'erent sized heads.
To give'the cap ay greater range of adjustability I find it preferable to secure a piece of elastic to the inner edge of the crescent-shaped piece 6. This elastic piece 7 is preferably independent of the sweat band which latter is formed of bias cut Inaterial or is otherwise made stretchable preferahly at'ithe front alone. The stitches of the seam between the sweat band, the elastic, and the cloth o,f"the inner edge of the peak pass through several thicknesses of material, which necessarily gives the same eonsiden' able elasticity, and this elasticity is readily increased by maintaining only a light tension on the thread while the seam is being sewn.
`What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a cap the combination of a cloth top: a cloth covered peak including a stitfener eut to leave an unstitfened stretchable crescent-shaped portion ofclotli at. the rearward side of the pea k; and a strctchable sweat band secured to the inner edge, ot said crescent shaped portion, the top of the cap being secured to the, peak along the outer edge of said unstifl'ened portion.
2. In a cap the combination of a cloth top; a cloth covered peak including a stiffener cut t0 leave an unstitfened stretcln able crescent-shaped portion at the rearward side of the peak: and a piece of elastic secured alongr the inner edge of said crescent shaped portion.
3. In a cap the combination of a cloth top: a cloth covered peak including` a stiti'ener cut to leave an nnstitfened stretchable cresce!it-shaped portion at the rearward side of the peak; a piece of elastic secured aloner the inner edge of said crescent shaped portion; and a stretehablc swcatlmnd also Secured along the inner edge of said crescent-shaped portion.
Dated at Toronto this 18th day of llarch 1913.
.ISAAC CENINEIL Signed in the presence ot'- J. RDW. MArBnn, E. P. HALL.
