To all whom it 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, SOLOMON MoNosoN, 'a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Article of Headwear, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in head-wear, and has for its object the provision of an article of head-wear adapted for use in any one of several different arrangements, thus giving a large variety of appearances to one and the same article.
. The invention consists in an article of manufacture of head-wear having a pliable crown and a pliable brim, united at the base of the crown, and provided with certain useful features, as hereinafter more particularly described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention is embodied in the cap or hat made of fur, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, in which- Figure l is a vertical, sectional view through the middle of the cap; Fig. 2 is an elevation, partly in section and partly broken away, of the same; and Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are perspective views illustrative of the various arrangements of the cap or hat.
In the drawing the reference symbol C designates the crown, and B, the brim. The brim and crown are secured together at the base b of the crown by stitching or in other suitable manner, and the band forming the f brim is doubled in underneath and its edge e is carried back to substantially the line of union of the brim and the crown, such edge e being stitched to a substantially nonstretchable band b', preferably of velvet, and such band b being stitched to the crown, or

A vizor or peak V is attached to a felt or other `wadding fw placed between the two thicknesses of material forming the brim B, by threads t. This vizor or peak may be of leather, two or more ply buckram, or other suitable sti but flexible material. The lining L is attached to the band b as by stitching. A draw-band or cord D is secured to the lining L between it and the crown C by looped thread t so that it may be drawn through such loops to vary the size of the `cap to suit the head of the wearer, a loop al of said draw band D being taken through a hole in the lining to the inside thereof in position convenient for the lingers to grasp it and operate said draw band D.
A substantially non-stretchable band or tape b2 is placed within the brim, between the outer and inner thickness O, I, thereof, at the fold and is there secured, as by stitchmg.
The iexible but substantially non-stretchable bands ZJ', b2 permit the hat or cap to be folded into compact form while preventing it from being stretched out of shape, and the band b2 permits the brim B to be folded up as shown in Fig. 3, that is, permits the hat or ca to be telescoped; the vizor to be turne down as shown in Fig. 4; or the vizor to be elevated as shown in Fig. 5 while the remainder of the brim is turned down, as in protecting the ears and the back of the neck against cold.
Fig. 6 shows a crease c in the crown, as in the Alpine hat or cap. It is obvious that such crease can also be used with the other arrangements of vizor and brim shown.
W'hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l. As an improved article of manufacture, an article of head-wear consisting of a pliable fur crown and a pliable fur brim joined directly together at the base of the crown forming a continuous unbroken external fur surface with the brim doubled back on itself underneath substantially to the line joining brim and crown, a substantially non-stretchable, band to which the edge of the doubledback brim is attached and which band is attached to the inside of the article substantially at such joining line, and a vizor or peak within and concealed by the doubled brim.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, an article of head-wearv consisting of a pliable crown and a pliable brim joined together at the base of the crown forming a continuous unbroken external fur surface with the brim doubled back on itself underneath substantially to the line joining brim and crown, a substantially non-stretchable band to which the edge of the doubled-back brim is attached and which band is attached to the inside of the article substantially at such joining line, a substantially non-stretchable band secured within the brim at the doubling thereof, and a vizor or peak within and concealed by the doubled brim.

As an improved article of manufacture, an article of head-Wear consisting of a pliable crown and a `pliable brim joined together at the base ofthe crown With the brim doubled back on itself underneath substantially to the line of joining of brim and crown, a substantially non-stretcliable .band to which the edge of the doubled-back brim is attached and which band is attached to the inside of the article substantially at such' `line of joining7 a lining attached to Said SOLOMON MONOSON.
