SHOTGUN-BARREL ATTACHMENT.
Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented Mar. 10,1914.
Application filed June 30, 1913. Serial No. 776,608. 7
Jo all-whomzit may concern Be it nown that I, CHARLES EHRLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rolla, in the county of Phelps and State of Missouri, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Shotgun-Barrel Attachments, of which the following is a speci fication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing. v
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a muzzleattachment for a shotgun barrel which will slightly elongate the barrel and provide a choke bore to give greater accuracy for short range shooting.
Another object of theinvention is to provide a choke bore attachment for the muzgiving greater length to the barrel and by contracting the muzzle end of the attachlnent slightly, the shot are prevented from scattering, thus assuring a gun of great accuracy for short range shooting.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is atop plan view of an attachment made in accordance with my invention and shown connected to the muzzle end of a cylinder bore gun barrel; Fig. 2 is an enlarged central vertical longitudinal section of the attachmentshowing the muzzle end of a gun barrel in position to be inserted within the attachment; Fig. 3 is a front end elevation of the attachment.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the muzzle end of a gun barrel of smooth cylindrical bore and 2 is the sight 1 on the end of said gun barrel.
My attachment comprises an extended barrel portion 3 having a threaded sight 4 connected thereto near the muzzle end. The bore 5 of the attachment is contracted at its muzzle end 6' to form what is known as a choke bore. The rear end of the attachment is slightly enlarged as at 7 and provided with a smooth socket Shaving an annular shoulder 9 at its front portion. An annular recess 10 is formed in the attachment, said recess '10 communicating with a sight opening 11 at the top thereof, said opening being formed in the flattened top portion 12 which permits the sight opening 11 to extend entirely through the attachment. The socket 8 is separated-at its lower side to form a slot between the two lugs 13 and said lugs are separated one from the other from the point 14 to the point 15 sulficient to permit the sight 2 on the. un barrel to be passed between them until t e sight is disposed within the recess 10 when the sight mav be rotated until it assumes a position within the sight opening 11.
To give greater resiliency to the socket member of the attachment and to permit it to be clamped firmly to the muzzle end of the gun barrel a saw kerf or slot 16 extends from the shoulder 15 a slight 'distanee toward the muzzle end of the attachment. A capstan screw 17 provided with holes 18 is fitted in threaded openings in the spaced lugs '13 and when the attachment is conneetcd to the muzzle'end of the gun barrel, this capstan screw is turned to firmly clamp the attachment to the gun barrel with the muzzle end 19 seated firmly against the shoulder 9 and the sight 2 centered in the sight opening 11 in longitudinal alinement with the sight- 4. The shoulder 9 is of the required depth to assure the inner bore of the gun barrel and the choke bore of the attachment to be in perfect alinement so that the load in passingthrough the barrel will not meet with any obstruct-ion. From the foregoing, it will be obvious that an attachment made in accordance with my invention may be quickly clamped to the end of a cylindrical gun barrel for the purpose of giving greater direction and condensation to a load of shot and to insure accurate short range shooting. The attachment may be quickly connected to a gun barrel and quickly detached therefrom whenever required and said attachment may be connected to any standard size barrel and firmly clamped in position. If desired, however, difi'erentsizes of the attachment may be made for different sizes of gun barrels.
I claim:
1. An attachment for the muzzle end of a shotgun barrel comprising a choke bore barrel extension, a socket at the rear end of said barrel extension, a recess for the sight of the gun barrel, said socket being provided with a shoulder for receiving the muzzle end of the gun barrel and said socket being provided with lugs, and an adjusting screw for vided at its lower. end and provided withspaced lugs, a screw for drawing said lugs I together for clamping the attachment to a gun barrel, an annular recess for permittingerinit the sight on the gun barrel to ass 15 mto the same and said socket being provided with an annular recess for said sight, said recess communicating with a sight opening at the top of the attachment for the sight on the gun barrel, and means for clamping 20 the attachment to the muzzle end of the gun. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
