Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 13, 1914.
Application filed June 29, 1912. Serial No. 706,628.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCES S. LARooHE, citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for holding on hats without the use of the ordinary dangerously long hat-pin.
The invention consists of the parts and the combination and construction of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the application to :1 barrette. Fig. 3 shows a single flexible hatpin.
A represents a hat which is provided with suitable eyelets or groinets 2 in the sides, through which a specially designed hat pin or two hat pins may be passed.
In Fig. 2 there is shown a single hat pin consisting of a thin flexible band 3, of steel or other suitable material, which extends across the front of the hat in decorative fashion, with the flexible ends of the band pin passing through the eyelets 2 and through the hair, and the ends brought to gether and crossed at the back of the hair and buttoned to little studs t, on the usual barrette or comb 5, worn at the back; the flexible ends of the steel or celluloid band pin 3 being provided with button-holes 6. The crossed ends of the hat pin or hat pins are then engaged behind a guard 7, formed 011 or carried by the barrette 5. Fig. 3
shows a single flexible hat-pin, in which case two are used, one on each side of the hat, the ends being brought together, buttoned and crossed, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, What- I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a hat having eyelets in either side, a flexible band pin passing through said eyelets, said band pin provided with perforations in its length, a barrette having studs engageable in said perforations, and said barrette having a guard with which the end portion of the pin may be engaged.
2. The combination with a hat having eyelets at opposite sides, of a hat pin of bandform crossing the front of the hat and having flexible ends one of which passes through each of said eyelets, said ends having a se ries of perforations, a barrette having studs engageable in said perforations, and a guard on the barrette behind which the free ends of the pin may be engaged.
3. The combination with a hat having eyelets in either side, of-a hat fastener comprising a flexible pin adapted to pass through one of said eyelets and provided with pertorations in its length, and a barrette, having a stud engageable in said perforations, said barrette having a guard with which the end portion of the pin may be engaged.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANCES S. LAROCHE. Witnesses:
