CHARLES MOLE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
NECKTlE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 565,087, dated August 4, 1896.
Application filed November 22, 1895 Serial No. 569,756. (N0 model.)
To (aZZ whom it 11mg concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES MOLE, a citizen of France, residing at Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters and numerals on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object the production of a simple and readily-operable necktiefastener, which may be easily applied to the collar-button of the wearer, the fastener comprising a retaining-catch which holds the necktie snugly in place.
The button-engaging portion of the fastener herein shown forms the subject-matter of United States Patent No. 499,466, granted to me the 13th day of June, 1893. a
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a rear view of the neclztie-fastener embodying my invent-ion detached from the necktie. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the fastener as attached to a necktie, with the latter turned up to show the button-engaging portion of the fastener. Fig. 3 is a front View of the fastener detached, but shown as grasping a collar-button and with the retaining-catch in operative position; and Fig. 4 is a side View thereof in the position shown in Fig.
The collar-button-engaging portion of. the fastener is shown as formed of wire bent oppositely to form springs a a, connected by a down-curved portion 1), the free ends of the wire crossing each other and being oppositely curved at c c and extended to form actuatingarms (Z d, as in my said Patent No. 499,466 referred to, like parts being similarly lettered herein.
Tho part 1) forms the fixed side of the button-engaging loop, the portions 0 0 extending down over the fixed side forming the top and separable sides of the loop.
In this invention the fastener is permanently attached or secured to the necktie by means of a substantially U-shaped holder F, having, if desired, holes 2 therein through which the stitches s are passed into the material of the tie T, as shown in Fig. 2, the extremities of the holder being bent to form eyes f, entered loosely by the upper portions of the spring-coils a a.
As shown in Fig. 2, the holder and the button-engaging portion of the fastener are thus hinged or pivotally connected, so that the tie may be swung up out of the way when the actuating-arms d (Z are compressed to apply the fastener to or to remove it from the collar button B.
The lower part of the holder f is enlarged at f and slightly concaved, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, on its outer face, to form a retaining-catch to slip under the lower edge of the head B of the collar-button when the fastener is attached thereto.
After the fastener is applied to the button, as shown in Fig. 2, the tie T is turned down and pressed toward the button-engagin portion of the fastener until the catch f'- slips beneath the back of the button-head, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, thereby holding the tie flat against the shirt-front.
To remove the tie, it is drawn down slightly till the retaining-catch f can pass from the button-head. The tie is then turned up and the arms cl (Z compressed to expand the loop and release the collar-button.
My invention is not restricted to the exact button-en gaging portion herein shown, as the same may be modified in construction or arrangement without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, so long as the fastener comprises two hinged or pivotallyconnected portions, one of which has a retaining-catch to hold said portions together and the tie in place when in use.
I claim 1. A necktie-fastener comprising a buttonengaging member, a holder connected to and movable toward and from said member and adapted to be attached to and concealed by the tie, and a retaining-catch to hold the said parts together when in use and maintain the tie in place, substantially as described.
2. A necktie-fastener comprising a member to engage the button-shank, a holder secured to the back of the necktie and pivotally connected to the buttonengaging member, and a retaining-catch on said holder adapted to engage the button-head, to hold said parts together when in use and thereby retain the tie in place, substantially as described.
3. A necktie-fastener comprising a bu ttonengaging member, a, U-shaped holder pivotname to this specification in, the presence of ally connected at its ends to the upper part two subscribing witnesses.
of the buttonren a in member and a re- D i mining-catch on the 1ov irer part of the holder, CHARLES MOLE 5 to slip beneath and be engaged by the but- Vitnesses:
ton-head, substantially as described. GEO. W. GREGORY,
In testimony whereof I-have signed my EMMA J. BENNETT.
