To all whom it may concern Be it'known that I, EMMAA. Pnmnmn, a States, residing in the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvementsin Bathing-Suits, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying sheet of drawings, forms a full, clear, and concise description.

One of the objectsofmy invention is to produce aone-piece bathing suit made up of united waist and skirt portions, the skirt portion being of thedivided type and so eonstrlu-ted that the folds thereof will dispose themselves gracefully around the limbs of the wearer, giving the appearance of the regulation full skirt.

A further object of my invention is to provide a bathing garment so constructed that when in use the skirtwill remain in jdraped position and not ride up around thebody of the wearer, and these objects are attained without in anyway interfering with the free action of the limbs of the wearer during bathing or swinnning.

Referring to the acompanying sheet of drawings inwhich I have illustrated one preferable embodiment of my invention, t igure 1 illustrates a garment made inaceol'dance therewith sl'lowingthe uniformity of the folds when the garment is worn. in detail, the numeral 1 indicates the waist portion of the garment which is provided with a suitable opening in the front at 1' to enable the wearer to don the same.

'2 indicates the skirt portion which is preferably fixedly united with the waist portion at 3 so as to form a single garment. At a. point substantially below the horizontal median line of the skirt portion, the front and rear thereof is slit or bisected and an inverted V-shaped piece 4, of the shape of the pattern, is inserted and sewed to the edges, forming a double dividing wall to produce in the garment a lower trunk portion.

The partition forming the lower portion of the skirt into separate limb or trunk portions extends but a short distance above the knee and some distance below the crotch of J V shaped vthe skirt 2 in the wearer so as to allow freedom of le n'iovement and is of sufficient length to prevent the garment from rising and exposing the limbs of the wearer. The inverted partition 4 may be made ofa single piece'or two pieces joined together at the upper edge 6. The edges are preferably curved or scalloped as shown, the lower edges 7 being so to a greater degree in order to prevent it from becoming exposed below case of any sagging due to weight when wet or other causes. Theupper edge of the insert'is made concave, that is, is higher at: the front and back where it is attached to the so that it will pass considerably below the crotch of the wearer. giving the appearance of the regulation bathing skirt.

, Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new herein and desire to secure by LettersVate'nt is:

l. A short skirtv for a bathing suit or the like, bisected at and near its lower extremity only, by a transverse partition extending from the front. to the rear ofthe skirt. the upper edge of said partition lying considerably below the crotch of the Wearenthe short leg portions thus formed being open at the'bottom and arranged to fall freely about the limbs of the wearer.

2. As a new articleof manufacture, a skirt opened at the bottom and adapted to fall freely about the limbs of the wearer, said skirt being provided with a folded insert; bisecting the same at its lower extremity, the folded edge extending beneath the crotch of the wearer and the side edgesof the inof the wearer, a har-- tions opened at the bottom, said leg sections being of a suflicient fullness to render the line of bisection invisible when the skirt is worn.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a skirt open at the bottomand arranged to fall freely about the limbs of the wearer, an insert therefor adapted to bisect the same at its lower extremity to produce two leg portions, each open at the sufiicient fullness to render the line of bisection invisible when the skirt is worn, Said insert being secured to the front and back portions of the skirt, the upper edge of the insert being concave so that the central portion thereof is considerably below the crotch of the wearer.

4:. A skirt for bathing suits and the like, bisected at and near the bottom only and. having a folded insert extending from the bottom, and of front to the rear thereof, the side edges of said insert being secured to said skirtalong each side of the lines of bisection of the front and rear thereof, the lower edges of said insert being upwardly curved or scalloped.

5; A skirt for bathing suits and the like, bisected at and near the bottom and having a folded insert extending from the front to the rear thereof, the folded edge of the insert being concave and passing under the crotch of the wearer and the side edges of the inseit converging toward the bottom so that the insert is shorter at the bottom than at the top, said side edges being secured to said skirt along each side of the lines of bisection of'the front and rear thereof.
