DANIEL Kors, or Nnw Yoan, N. Y.
APPAREL-CORSET.
To all whom zt may concern.'
Be it known that l, DANIEL Kors, a citizen of the United States, residingl in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following' is a specification.
My invention relates to an apparel corset, and particularly to a maternity corset.
Heretofore, corsets have been so constructed in the lower front portion thereof as to provide a support for the abdomen, the con struction of these corsets being such that a pressure is exerted upwardly from the lower part of the corset `front to properly support the abdomen. Corsets have also beenheretofore so constructed as to be adjustable to enable the wearer to vary the girth of the corset to adapt the same to varying dis tentions of the abdomen. VSo far as I am aware, however, these features have not hereto-fore been embodied in a single garment, and the object of my present invention is therefore to provide a corset so constructed as to be adjustable in t-he girth thereof, and also so formed in its lower `front portions as to properly support the abdomen, irrespective of the extent of its distention, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan of a corset body half illustrating my present invention, the same being shown broken away to cconomize space. Fig. 2 is a front edge view of a corset, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section on line rc, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, my improved maternity corset is preferably made in halves, as is customary in corset structures, and each corset half comprises a front section 1() and a back section 11. In the front section, at the front edge thereof, there is the usual steel 12 provided with. studs 13, forming part of the fastening devices, a complementary socket member being provided on the steel of the other half of the corset. The front steel 12 is also provided with a stud or hook 14, adjacent its lower end, the purpose and function of which will be hereinafter specified. Also, as is customary, the front section 10 is provided withy suitable bones 15 and the back section 11 with similar bones 16.
Adjacent the rear vertical edge 17 of the front section 10, the same is provided with a series of lacing eyelets 18, and secured Specification of Letters Patent.

along a line of sewing 19, adjacent this edge of the section 10, are a series of tension straps 20, 21, 22, and 23. These tension straps are so placed as to converge toward their free ends, where they are connected by a line of sewing 2st or otherwise, and provided with a series of eyelets, indicated at 2o, adapted to engage the hook 14. rlhe lower portion of the front section 10 may be provided with an elastic fabric insert, indicated at 26. A
By reference to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the lower portion of the corset steel 12 is preferably curved inwardly, and, as will be understood, the free ends of the tension straps may be so secured to the lower end of the corset steel by causing one of the eyelets 25 to engage the hook 11tas to assist the lower end of the corset steel and adjacent portions of the corset body to exert the necessary upward pressure at the lower front portions of the corset to properly support the abdomen of the wearer.
Adjacent to the forward vertical edge 27 of the back section 11 of the corset body half which is provided with a series of lacing eyelets 28, corresponding to the eyelets 18 adjacent the edge 17 of the frontsection 10, and suitably laced through theseeyelets, l. employ a corset lace, indicated at 29.
lt will be understood that the sectionslO` and 11 are divided along their respective edges 17 and 27, from the lower edge of the corset to the upper edge thereof, and that these sections of the corset body half are united by an extension member or plait indicated at 30. This extension member is suitably connected to the front section 10 along the lines of sewing indicated at 19, and to the back section 11 along similar lines of sewing indicated at 32. It will be understood that the laces 29 may be so drawn and tied as to determine andadjust the distance between the adjacent edges 17 and 27 of the front and back sections of the corset body half, and that depending upon the extent to which these edges are separated, the extension member 30 will correspondingly open, and that the laces may be adjusted to cause the corset to adapt itself to the distentions of the abdomen, and that irrespective of the adjustment of these par,ts,'the lower portion of the corset front will, at all times, give the necessary support to the abdomen.
In' orderthat the extension member or plait 30 may remain in its proper position i irrespective Vof the extent to which the division between the sections of the corset body halt are open, prefer to employ a hose supporter attachment 33, .which is connected to the lower inner edge of this extension member or plait, it being understood that the tension applied to this hose supporter device being extended to the plait, will maintain the same properly in position. As also indicated in the drawings, I may employ a hose supporter device 3l attached to the lower corner of the baclr section 1l.
I claim as my invention:
l. ln an apparel corset, a corset body half comprising a frontsection, a. back section, an adjustable extension member connecting the said front and back sections, and tension means attached to the said adjustable extension member for maintaining the same properly in position.
2. In an apparel corset, a corset body half comprising a front section, a back section divided from the front section on a line extending from the lower edge to the top edge of the corset body half, a loop member secured to the adjacent edges of the sections of the corset body half, means for adjusting the relative positions of the adjacent edges of the said sections of the corset body haltl and the extent to which the said loop member is open, and a hose supporter device secured to the lower edge of the said loop member so that the tension applied through the said hose supporter device when in use., will maintain the loop member properly in position.
Signed by me this 45th day of June, 1918.
