UNITED STATES PATnN'r FFICEt ABDOMINAL SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 682,503, dated September 10, 19 01.
Application filed March 11, 1901. $erial No. 50,694. (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, RACHEL STRASBURGER, of Butte, in the county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supporters; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention is an improvement in abdominal supporters; and its object is to provide a sectional supporter which can be easily adjusted to suit persons of different size and can also be readily adjusted by a stout person so as to fit in the most comfortable mannor, and this nicety of adjustment is obtained by making the supporter in sections and providing it with rear and side lacings, elastic side portions, and an open front portion, so
that having been once fitted to the wearer the supporter can be readily put on or taken off without necessarily unfastening the laces. In any case it is only necessary to adjust the back laces once, and thereafter the adjustments can be effected by the side laces. By the employment ofthese several sets of laces it is possible to fit the supporter to the wearer so as to bring the elastic strips exactly opposite the hips, which is the proper and most comfortable location therefor.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the complete device as worn, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the supporter spread open.
In the drawings the supporter comprises two opposite but similarly-constructed flexible back pieces A, two elastic side portions B, and two flexible front pieces 0. The back portionsA are preferably provided with a series of vertical cordings a, and at their adjoining ends they may be provided with bones or stays a and also with a series of lacingeyelets a through which passes the lacing D, which is secured and fastened like a corsetlace. Each elastic portion B consists of a series of parallel horizontally-disposedelastic strips 1), connected at their rear ends to the adjoining end of one of the pieces A, and at their front ends said strips are connected to a vertical strip B, which is provided on its opposite edge with a series of lacing-eyelets 5 through which pass the side lacings E, which connect the elastic portions with the adjoining front portion 0. The front portions Care of textile material and may be stiff- I cried at their rear ends by means of vertical cording c, and along their rear ends they are provided with a series of eyelets c for the passage of the lacings E, by which they are connected to the elastic portions. The meeting ends of the front portions are rounded, as shown, so that when fastened together they will fit and support the abdomen of the wearer, and they may be provided with any suitable connecting device. As shown, one part 0 is provided with a row of buttons and the other with a row of buttonholes, by which they may be readily attached together.
What I claim as new is The herein-described supporter comprising two similar opposite back portions, a lace connecting said portions, two elastic side portions consisting of a series of parallel, elastic strips extending from bottom to top of the supporter and connected at their rear ends to the adjoining ends of the back portions and having their front ends connected to vertical eyeleted strips, and two front portions having their rear ends eyeleted and their front edges round ed, and respectively provided with buttons and buttonholes, and eyelets and laces connecting the opposite front portions to the adjoining side portions, respectively, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RACHEL STRASBURGER.
