Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented @ct. 14i,1913.
Application filed September 12, 1912. Serial No. 720,009.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILFRID G. GILLIAM, a citizen of the United States, residin at Washington, in the District of Colum ia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Carriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to game carriers and more particularly to that class of game carriers which may be readily secured upon the belt or the waist band of trousers.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of this character of extremely simple construction and which will serve to carry a number of birds.
Another object is to provide a device of this character including a shank having spaced upper and lower curved plates secured thereto and connected by spaced pairs of cooperating wires, the shank being swiveled to the supporting member adapted for engagement with a belt or trouser band.
Another object is to generally improve and simplify the construction of devices of this character and increase the efficiency thereof.
With this and other objects in View my invention will be more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form part of this application.
in the drawings :Figure 1 is an elevational view of my device secured in position for use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the game carrier proper. Fig. 4 is adetail viewof the hanger therefrom.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout, 10 represents the shank having the eye 11 formed at its upper end and the lower end formed in a hook, as shown at 12. The upper plate 13 is secured upon the shank 10 adjacent the eye 11, said plate being preferably of substantially semi-elliptical form with the rear edge concave, as shown at 13. The similar plate 14c is secured upon the shank 10 immediately above the hook 12 and is substantially the same form as the plate 13 although considerably smaller. The rear edge of the plate 14 is also of concave form as shown at 14. The purpose of cutting the rear edges of the plates in substantially concave form will presently appear.
The cooperating wires 15 are arranged in spaced pairs and have their lower ends secured to the lower plate and then extended upwardly and outwardly in contacting relation. Adjacent the plate 13, the upper ends of the wires are bent divergently with relation to each other and inwardly as at 17 and have their extremities secured at 16 to the upper plate 13. One wire of each pair is crimped throughout its straight portion as shown at 15 in order to securely hold the game between said wires.
he eye 11 is swiveled to the lower end of the rectangular belt encircling member 18 by means of a swivel pin 19 and links 20. The member 18 is adapted for engagement over the belt 21 and has secured to its upper face at its upper end the turn-ed plate 22 which engages over the edge of the trouser waist band, as shown at 23, thus preventing sagging of the belt.
It will be seen how the device may be moved to any position desired by sliding the member 18 upon the belt 21.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that a number of birds may be carried upon this device by inserting their feet between the flared or outwardly curved upper ends of the wires and forcing said feet between the straight portions of said wires. It will also be apparent that a number of birds may be suspended from the hook 12 by forcing the feet thereof over said hook.
Owing to the extremely simple construction of this device, it will be evident that the same may be readily and cheaply manufactured and will be highly efficient in use.
The concaved rear edges of the plates 18 and 14C permit the carrier proper to properly rest against the body, thus eliminating the danger of the device swinging too freely upon the swivel pin, as will be clearly understood.
VVhile I have shown the preferred form of my device, I wish it to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a shank, upper and lower plates carried by said shank, cooperating wires connecting said plates and arranged in pairs,
and means for suspending the shank from the belt.
2. A device of the character described comprising a belt engaging member, a waist band engaging member carried by the belt engaging member, a shank extending from the belt engaging member and spaced plates carried by the said shank, the lower end of the shank being formed in a hook, and game supporting means extended between said plates.
3. A device of the character describedcomprising a shank having its upper end formed 1n an eye and its lower end formed in a hook, an upper plate carried by said shank and a smaller lower plate carried by said shank, cooperating wires connected at their opposite ends to sald plates and havmg their upper portions curved outwardly in WILFRID G. GILLIAM.
