GARMENT HANGER.

Application filed April 16, 1924. Serial No. 706,941.

This invention relates to garment hangers and particularly to an improved coat and dress hanger and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein a structure is presented which automatically tends to prevent the garment from accidentally falling oif of the hanger.

Another object of the invention is to provide a hanger in which reversely extending members are provided acting as abutments to prevent a garment from sliding 01f of the hanger when the hanger is tilted or otherwise shifted out of normal position.

In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a side view of a hanger, disclosing an embodiment of the invention.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the structure shown in Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a side elevation of a slightly modified structure to that shown in Figure 1.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a supporting hook of any desired kind which is connected in any desired manner with the body 2 of the hanger, which body is formed with upwardly inclined surfaces 3 and 4 whereby abutments or shoulders are provided tending to prevent a garment from slipping off the hanger in a longitudinal direction. The raised sections 5 and 6 having the curved surfaces 3 and 4 merge into rounded knobs 7 and 8 whereby a proper support and form is presented for holding a coat or other garment extended and in substantially proper shape.

Where a skirt or dress is placed on the hanger, the raised sections 5 and v6 will not only act as means for properly holding the garment in correct shape but will act to prevent the garment from sliding off the ends of the hanger.

Under some circumstances where evening dresses or dresses having shoulder straps are to be placed on the hanger, the straps may be placed over the sections 3 and 4 of the hangor shown in Figure 1, though preferably the modified structure shown in Figure 3 is used and the straps placed over the sections 9 and 10. These sections are provided with upstanding stops 11 and 12 whereby the shoulder straps cannot slip off the sections 9 and lOreven if the hanger is tilted to a great extent.

What I claim is:

A garment hanger, comprising a. body having end portions arranged in a plane above its center, said end portions projecting downwardly and inwardly toward the center of the hanger, said inwardly projecting portions each having an upwardly extending lug.
