Description
S. ROSENBERG GARMENT BANGER Aug. 19, 1947.
Eiled Feb. '7, 1944 IN VEN TOR.- 6m amo/V /aJf/VE/e G.
BY m f Patented Aug. 19, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GARMENT HANGER Solomon Rosenberg, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application February 7, 1944, Serial No. 521,326 1 Claim. (C1. 223-788) My invention relates to garment hangers and has for its principal object, to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive hanger adapted to receive garments such as mens coats, vests and trousers, also ladies coats and the like and the hanger being provided with short supporting arms or fingers from which skirts may be conveniently suspended.
A further object of my invention is to generally improve upon and simplify the form of garment hanger forming the subject matter of my copending application Yfor U. S. Letters Patent ied Dec. 28, 1943, Serial No. 515,899.
With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a garment hanger constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. y
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken through the end portion of the hanger and showing a modified construction.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section similar to Fig. 3 and showing a further modied structure.
Referring by numerals to theV accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, I designates the upper rail or body of the hanger, the bilateral portions II of which gradually decline toward their outer ends.
A hook I2 attached to and projecting upwardly from the center of body lil provides means for suspending the hanger from a rail or support.
Connecting the outer ends of portions Il is a rail- I3 which serves as a support for trousers.
Arranged beneath and parallel with the end portions of rail I3 are short horizontally disposed arms I4, the outer end of whichV are connected to the ends of said rail, by short neck portions I5 and formed in the upper portion of each arm is a plurality of spaced notches I5.
The upper part of the hanger comprising the inclined members II is adapted to receive and support coats, vests, jacket and the. like and skirts are suspended from the arms I5 by engaging the skirt loops, which are attached to the waist band, in notches IB, as shown by dotted lines Fig. 1.
The provision of a number of notches in each arm I4 enables skirts of diierent sizes to be conveniently suspended from the hanger.
To suspend trousers from the hanger, the trousers legs are folded double over the rail I3 with the depending folded portions in direct contact with each other and positioned slightly 01T- set from said rail due to their bearing against one of the side faces of one or both of arms I4.
By thus suspending the trousers with the folded portions in direct contact with each other, a certain amount of friction is provided between the contacting fabric surfaces and such condition counteracts tendency of the trousers to slip off the rail I3 even though one of the folded parts of the garment is somewhat heavier than the other.
In Figs. 3 and 4 the arms I4 are shown slotted lengthwise as designated by I1 in order to receive the folded portions of trousers which depend from rail I3.
My improved garment hanger may be formed of wood, lightweight metal, or compressed nbre, although I prefer to form same in a single piece from suitable plastics.
Thus it will be seen that 1 have provided a garment hanger which is simple in structure, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved garment hanger may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention;
As a new article of manufacture, a garment hanger formed in a single piece and comprising an upper member having oppositely inclined bilateral portions, a horizontal rail connecting the ends of said inclined portions, short horizontal arms disposed beneath and parallel with the end portions of said rail, the outer ends of said arms being connected to the outer ends of said rail the inner ends of which arms are spaced a substantial distance apart to permit ready insertion,
