IMPROYEMENT IN COMBINED MOP-HEAD AND WRING-ER.
"he lSchedule referredto in these Lett-ers Patent and making part of the same,
Mrk
To ult fwlwmit may concern -Be it known that I, \V1LL1AM GAGE, of Bnti'a'lo city, in the county ot' Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined lyIop-Wringer and Head and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and cxact description thereof', reference being had to theaccompanyiug drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forni a part of' lt-his specification. v v
The nature oi' luy invention consists inthe construction and arrangement of a combined mop-head and wringer, as will be hereinafteri'ully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and, use the same, E will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, and
Figure 2, an edge view of my improved mop-head.
A represents a wire frame ot'. the peculiar constructionshown in tig. 1, its upper end being attached to a colllar or socket, B, through which the handle C passes.
Uponthe lower end ot' the handle O is secured the Bread D, which is composed of a bar, a., provided on its upper side, in the center, with a socket, b, for the insertion ofthe handle, and at each end a pin, d, projects downward.
The pins cl (l pass through holes or slots in the ends of another bar, e, which is held up to the bar a by means ot' a set nut, g, working on a screw, f, which rprojects downward from the bar c, and through a hole in the center of the bar e.
Between the bars a and e of the head D the ends of -the mop-cloth E are firmly clamped.
Around the socket b of the head D is a. loose collar, G, confined on the saine by pinst' i, and from which arms 1 I extend. The outer ends of' thesearms form loops, or are provided wit-h holes, through which the sidesof the frame A pass; thearmsl I, with the collar Gr, thus forming guides for the lower end of the handle JG. 1
yWhen the handle is moveddown in the position shown in the drawing, the handle is held by a spring, h, which bears against the under edge of the socket B. By pushing this spring -in .-the rhandle C with the head 1), cloth ll and arms I I may be moved up in the frame. \Vhen in this position thc handle may be turned so as to wring the mop-cloth, on itself, between thel sides ofthe frame, the bottom oi` the frame holdingthc mop-cloth, while the top supports the head and other end of the doubled clot-h.
Ii'amop-cloth is wrang so as to come iu contactwith any foreign substance, for instance, twisted on its own handle, it can never be wrung out dr hence,
the importance of constructing the head and trame in such a manner that it can be wrung on itself.
Having thus fully described my invention,
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by' Letters Patent, is
l. The head I), construetedas described, of the bars a e, pins d d, screw f, and set nut f, for clamping the ends ofthe mop-cloth, as herein set forth.
2. Inl combination with the above, the frame A, handle C, head l), cloth E, and collar G, with arms I I, all constructed and arranged described, substantially as and for ih e purposes herein set forth.
Intest-imony tbatI claim the foregoing as my own, I attix my signature i'u presence of'two witnesses.
