IMPRovED PLATE-LETER.

I *HOV-v The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of -the same To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, EDWIN G1BBs,of Richland Centre, in the county of Richland and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plate-Lifters; and do hereby declare that the following is 'a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to -the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the con-` struction and arrangement of a lii'ter for plates, Sac., as -will be hereinafterI fully set forth.

. In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction vand operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in

A represents the handle of the lifter, of any suitablerlength, having a bar, B, hinged to its left side, at the front end.

The bar B is, on the upper side, at its rear or inner end, provided with a pin, O.

'lo the handle A and bar B are secured two wire grab-lrooks, D D, of the peculiar' shape shown in fig. 1, said hooks crossing each other and extending in opperspective view of thc plate-lifter,

same, as it appears posite directions; lthat is, the hook attached to the handle extends under the bar B, out toward the left, while the other hook attached to said bar extends under the handle A, ont toward the right.

To use thc lifter, take hold Aof the handle A with the right hand, pressing outward, toward the'left, on the pin C, with the thumb, which spreads and llrolds the grabs D D apart. The grabs are then slipped under the edges of the plate, and the thumb removed from the pin C, when the grabs will swing together under the plate, so that it can be lifted. The heavier' the plate is the tighter the grabs will hold it. 'Il'ren, by pressing outward on the piu C, the grabs will scparate and be removed from the plate.

Having thus fully described'myfinvention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination of the hinged arms A B and studV C with the wire rods D D, bent as' show n, crossing over and connected to the am;y furthest from theside at which they are hooked, to grasp the plate, all as set fort-lr.
