Description

'UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GARMEN '1f-BUTTON.
Specication of'Letters Patent.
Patented June 17, 1913.
Application led April 29, 19123 Serial No. 693,995.
To all al1/omit may concern.'
Be it known that I, WADE H. SAUNDERS, a citizenof the United States. residing at oanoke, in the county of Roanoke and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Garment-Button; and I do'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled-in the art to Which it appertains .to make and use thel same.
is invention'relates to a new and useful button adapted for use in connection with wearing apparel, and particularly to new and useful means for attachingthe button to a garment. v l v A It is the principal object of the invention to provide a device 4of this nature, vin which desirable and practical features of construction exist.
The main features of construction is the provision of an annular recess 01h/groove formed in the wall of a. perforation in lthe center of the button, to receivethe diverging ends of a cotter oifstaple pin, which is adapted to be inserted through an opening of the button and arranged transversely thereof.
The invention comprises further 'features and :onibina'tion of parts, as hereinafter se! forth. shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings: Fig-ure l is a vieu' showing the application of the improved button and connecting means. Fig. 2 is a seftional vien' on line 2&2 of Fig. l. Fig. Il is a sectional vien' on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. l is a bottom plan view of the button.
Referring io the drawings 1 designates a .section ot' fabric or a portion of a wearing apparel. while 2 denotes the improved button. which may be constructed in any desired shape, or provided with any desired configuration, just so long' as the saine is constructed With .a central opening 3, in the wall of which an annular perforation or l l i l fabric or garment,
vnular recess or groove 4 is formed. is formed in the. button, at right angles to the perforation or opening 3. which is adapted to receive a Cotter or staple pin T, winch when received penetrates a fold 8 in the in order to secure the'button to the fabric. The two armst) of the pin diverge outwardly, in order to prevent the pin from pulling from the fold of the fabric, while the extremities l() of the diverging arms are received in the annular 5 recess or groove 4, therehy'resisting the strain andpull exerted upon the pin by thefold of the fabric, when causing the button to enter the button-hole (not shown).
From the foregoing it will be observed there has been devised an essential and improved bntton and attaching means therefor, and one which has been found desirable and practicable.
The invention having been .set forth, what is claimed as new and useful isz In combination, a garment button comL prisinfg'r an annular body having a .central unobsiructed perforation or opening extending entirely therethrough adapted to receive a fold or loop in a piece of fabric, the wall ol the opening or perforation having an angroove. the body having a second opening at right angles to the first opening and comniunicating with said opening and fn-oove. an attaching nieane, adapted to enter the second opening and penetrate the fold 1 or loop of the fabric and enter that portion of the groove oppositethe secondopeningf for .-;ec||ring the button tothe'garnient..
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
