BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J line 10, 1913.
Application filed December 26, 1912. Serial No. 738,542.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. OADIGAN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide a bottle composed of two detachably connected parts each of which may be used as a receptacle for liquids, and one of which may be used as a drinking cup, and with this-and other objects in view the invention consists in a bottle or vessel of the class specified, constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, said drawing being a central vertical section of a bottle made according to my invention.
In the practice of my invention, as shown in Fig. 1, I provide a bottle a composed of.
a top member a and a bottom member a and the top member a is provided with a neck a; adapted to be closed by a plug or stopper 6 in the usual manner.
The part a is open at the bottom and the part a is open at the top, and said parts are connected by acentral band member 0 having a transverse web portion 0 and provided in the -top thereof with a deep annular groove 0 and in the bottom thereof with a similar annular groove 0 which is prefer-- ably deeper than the annular groove 0 and the annular groove 0 is adapted to'receive the bottom of the part a of the bottle while the annular groove 0 is adapted to receive the top of the bottom part a of the bottle.
The inner wall 0 of the groove 0 is threaded on its outer side and the corresponding inner. wall of the bottom of the part o of the bottle is correspondingly threaded, as shown at 0, and the inner wall 0 of the groove 0 is threaded on its outer side, and the top portion of the bottom part a of the bottle is correspondingly threaded on its inner side as shown at 0 The threads 0 and the threads 0 are reverse threads, and in practice the bottom of the top part a of the bottle is screwed into the groove 03 in one direction, While the top of the bottom part a of the bottle is screwed into the groove 0* in the opposite direction, and placed in the grooves c and a are packing gaskets or rings 0?.
The thread on the inner wall of the bottom part a of the bottle is below the top of said part, whereby, said top of the part a is provided with an annular portion a which is not threaded, and this-facilitates the use of the bottom part a of the bottle as a drinkmg cup.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the central band member 0 consists, in effect, of an outer annular portion 0 and an in er annular portion 0 and these parts are connected by a web portion 0 and as shown in the drawing, are formed integrally, but said parts may be constructed and connected in any desired manner.
'With this construction, both of the parts a and a of the bottle may be filled or partially filled with liquids, as shown at w, and x and the bottom part may be detached and used as a drinking cup, or the top part a may be filled or partially filled, in which case the bottom part a may be detached and used as a drinking cup, and said parts may be used as receptacles for liquors of different kinds.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bottle composed of top and bottom parts, the top part being provided with a neck and being open at the bottom, and the bottom part being open at the top, said parts being connected by a central annular mem-' her having a transverse web portion, and also provided with deep annular grooves in the top and bottom thereof and in which the bottom of the top part and the top of the bottom part are detachably secured.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have si ed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 24th day of December 1912.
JOHN E. CADIGAN.
