UNITED sTaTns PATENT opriep;
DRAWERS Foa WOMEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented June 3, 1912i.
Application filed September 27, 1912. Serial N 0,722,624.
To all fwhom may concern:
Be it known thatI, CHARLES H. Lnwi, a citizen o-f the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers for Women; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the ac- 4eompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a vpart of this specification.
This invention relates to underdrawersfor women and consists of the matterslhereinafter described and more particularly point- .ed out in the appended claim.
largely owing -to the waist line and while overlapping provided at the.slit to normally omens drawers as now commonly made :are slit at the crotch and are'norm'ally open for the wearers convenience in performing the natural excretal functions. This slit runs up the seat of the drawers toward the flaps are close the slit opening in the seat, the result is far from satisfactory, thevmost delicate parts of .the body being left exposed. Efforts have been madeA to provide under-drawers which are normally closed and which may be unfastened to open them for the purpose mentioned but thesehave been` unsuccessful,
fact that the underdrawers lie next to the body with the waist band underneath the corset and the usual provisions to that end are not readily reached for detachment.
The object of the present invention is to provide practicable underdrawers for women y which are normally closed so that all parts of the body are protected but which may be easily and fully opened when required for any purpose without disarranging the .clothing-anymore than is necessary in lifting the skirts.
In the drawings Figure 1 1s a view representing my improved drawers in rear eleva-y tion ,as they appear when fully open. 'Fig 2 is a like view showing them partially closed.
Fig.` 3 is a rear elevation showing the l drawers as they appear when entirely' closed.
Ieferring now to that embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings, A- indicates the drawers, a, a, 'the legs of the sameseparate from and distinct from the shirt or may be made in one piece with theshirt as in the familiar union suit.
C, indicates the seat of the drawers which 1s made 1n two parts c, c, which are joined together at D,'a point at or near the waist line. Said seat .parts have marginal flaps c1 01 which overlap above the crotch E of `the drawers but diverge toward the inside leg lines e, e, as to leave a gap or opening at that point. The overlapping marginal flaps of the seat members are provided with any suitable or convenient means for detachably connecting them together and as shown one has a but placed button f. These are preferably so located above the crotch. that they will not interfere with the wearers comfort when seated. In the' crotch E, which is preferably made wide for the. purpose, there is attached to or made integral with the front of the drawers a third Hap G whichl is adapted to fold backwardly between the drawer legs and upwardly against the overlapping flaps ofthe seat. Said lap G is sufficiently-broad at its base g to fully protect the parts of the body which it covers and preferably tapers .in breadth toward its end g1. The Hap G drawer-legs as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 and when in closed position is detachably connected-to the seat, preferably' by means of the samebut-ton f that att-aches the seat fiaps 01 o1 together," a button hole g2 being formed near the end g1 of the Hap G.
My improved drawers are normally as shown in Fig. 3 with the seat flaps overlapped a-nd buttoned Hap -buttoned to them. All parts of the body are, apparently fully protected when the flaps are buttoned.
unbuttoned 'and allowed to drop down as shown in Fig. 2 when it may be easily grasped anddrawn forward from between thevlegs, thereby fully opening the drawers at the crotch. Vhen a larger opening is desired the overlapping seat flaps c1 c1 may be likewise unfastened and laid or` folded back as shown inl Fig. 1.
for Women will be at once apparent to those lace where the familiar with the art.. The flaps are fastened and the aps themselves are easily gotten at toY be unfastened and ton hole F and the other a correspondingly .together and the third.
When necessary for any' v purpose to open thel drawers the flap G is The advantages of my improved drawers i when detached, hangs down between the 'opcned with .no more inconvenience to the wearer tbanthat attendant upon the Vuse of the common split. drawers hereinbeore rei ment, and extending rearwardly and up-l wardly, the same being adapted to overlie said overlapping flaps, and means for detach ably connecting said three aps together.
In testimony that I cla-im` the foregoing as my invention -I afiixl my signature in the presence of two witnesses, tvhis-24fth day of September A. D. 1912.
