JoNEs, of Louis- ,ville, inthe county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in ShutterfHinge; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, `and `exact description thereof, 'whielrwill enable others skilled iu the art' to make and use the same, reference `being had to theaucompanying drawing. forming part of this specification.

` This invention relates to a new and usefnlmprovement ina bntt-hingefor shutters, more especially designed fol-.inside window-shutters, which have rebated edges, but.v which `are applicable to other purposes;

and it consists `in making angles in the leaves of the hinge, so that lthehinge shall conform to the edges of the shutters, as hereinafter more fully described'.

The butt-hinge ordinarily used' for hingin'g thelnl togetheris the common flat-leaved butt, placed flat4 upon the sides of the-shutters, leaving the whole size of the hinge exposed sto view, thus presenting an unsightly audclumsy appearance. j

With a view of avoiding ,this appearance I coustrnet my butt witha-n angle, A, in each leaf, which fits into the angle of the shutters, as seen in Iig. 3, so that the joint edge of the butt only shows when the shutter is closed, as.seen.at B, in the same figure.

By this improvement, the butt is made to appear; when applied toreba'ted edges, the same as the ordinary butt -when closed, thus giving av neat and workmanlike appearance to the closed shutters of a room, instead ofan exhibition of a multitude of full sized-butts and screw-heads. Y
