l and lower members respectively,.since suoli members are superposed one upon the other. l The lower member is designated by the To all whom t may concern.' j
Be it known that I, ARTHUR M. MonGAN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Belmont 5 and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements `in Line-Wire Fasteners, of which the following is a-speci-v fication l This invention relates to certain new and hese members, as stated, are in superposed relation, and both are adapted 'toJ span an` insulator cap .7, in the manner best shown 1n Fig. 2 of the drawings. 'It-will'of course made of different sizes to correspond -t'o the different sizes of insulator caps .whichfare generally employed. At theforward ends of its arms, the lower member 5 isv provided and has for its object to provide a new and Vuseful device of this characterhaving simple and elicient means for quickly and secnrely fastening telegraph, telephone, and
end o its arms the upper member 6 is pro-` vvided with co-acting gripping jaws 9. The. jaws 8 fare formed by curving upwardly'thev free ends of the arms of the member 5,-and y 'the jaws 9 are formed by an upward and 75 downward curve of the free ends of the arms of member 6. The line wire" lO-is received and clamped'between said jaws 8 and 9.
At its rear closed end .the lower member carried by the usual supportin pole.
The invention has for its fiirther object to provide a line wire clamp which may be' employed'- with line wires of different diamthe limewire and the insulator cap will securely 'hold such line wire in engagement with lthe .cap without danger of the wire becoming displaced from such cap.
ber 6 has a curved seat 12 engagedgby an eccentric 14 carried by the pivoted head 15 of' a clamping lever 16, said clamping lever 416 beingsecured- 'to the extension 11 'by' a pivot 17. y A. 85 The head 15 being of vgreater diameter than the eccentric 14. loverlies the member 6 'at the closed end of the latter, and thus, since the head l5 is pivoted to the extension 1l of the member ,5, holds the two` members 90 against separation at their'closed ends, that. is, against lother separation than that resultin'g from thesliding movement of the member 6.lv l v .The lower -member 5 near the forward 9'5 'ends' ofits arms carries bolts or pins 18"' which extend through slots 19' in 'the arms of the upper member 6 near the forward ends of such arms.v The clamping ylever ject to provide a device which may be easily and readily placed in position and thereby materially facilitating the fastening of the line wires to the insulator caps.
as will appear hereinafter -as the invention is more fully described and then claimed, the-invention consists of thenovel construction, combination and arrangement of parts,
tion illustrated in the accompanying draw-4 ings, like reference numerals indicating like parts throughout the 'different views, in which:-`
wire fastener in accordance with my invention, the same'being shown in. position on` an insulatoi` cap, the latter and a part of a line wire being illustrated in dotted lines.4 i viewl of the clamp secured to an insulator cap and line wire, the insulator cap being shown Iin horizontal section.-
Fig. 3 is va horizontal sectional view taken. A on the line 33 of Fig. 2, and, Fig. 4 is a longitudinalv sectional View taken on the hook-shaped free end as herein shown.l
The provision of such end allows for the insertion ofy a suitable instrument to' release the lever in event ofthe same being dilicultV to release by a lpull ofthe fingers. p 105 Vith the lever thrown to the open positi n, it will be evident that-the upper member 6 may recede from its forward position so as to permit the insertion of the line wire y 10 into the jaws y8, and upon the clamping 110 line 4- -4 of Fig. 2. j i. To put my invention into practice, I provide two members, each of which are substantially U-shaped in form, and Whichmembers will beherein designated asupper be understood 'that said members may -be "with gripping jaws 8, and at the forward i 5 has an extension 11, while the upper mem- 80 may or mayl not be constructed with the '-100` l i facture. It will require but an instant to the'time now generally required for fasteni changes may be ,made thereinwithout dey 1. l leve 16 being tlirown to its closed position, the entric or cam le acting on the seat 12 the jaws 9 firmly against the line :I wir 10, locking the latter against the `insu- 5lat''r 7. Obviously, the jaws may be made to tthe sized wire `they are to clamp while the 'frame is lett unchanged. The device may be stamped fromsheet metal, thus rendering the same extremely cheap to manu- 2. A line wire fastener comprising two superposed flat substantially lJ-sliaped membeis, one having a sliding engagement on the other, pins on one member working in slots in the other member and holding the 40 members in superposed relation, clamping jaws at the forward ends of the arms' of said members, and a clamping lever pivotedv to one member .and having an eccentric operating on the rear end of the other member to move the slidable member toward the open end of the other member, said eccentric having a head overlying the slidable member at the closed end or' the latter to secure the members against separation at their closed ends.
3. A ,line wire fastener comprising two substantially U-shaped members, each .having clamping jaws at the free ends of their arms, a clamping .member pivoted to the closed end of the lower member and having a cam acting on the rear end of the upper/ member to slide the latterl towardl he'ipen end of the lower member, means at the forward ends of the arms for holding the sanfe' 60 in superposed relation, and means carrie by the clamping lever tov hold the arms-in superposed relation at their closed ends.
In testimonyT whereo I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
l ARTHUR M MORGAN.
place the fastener on the insulator, place the line wire invits position, and close the clamping lever so as to securely lock the line wire to the insulator, thus materially reducing in theline wire to the insulator caps.
While' the embodiment herein shown is a practical and preferred form of my construction, it .will be obvious that various .parting from the general spirit ot the invntion as claimed. Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:-
superposed substantially U`shaped members, each provided at the free en ds of their arms with/a clamping jaw, securing/pins carried bythe lower member and projecting through bena clamping lever pivoted to the lower member and carrying an eccentric, and `a seat arried by the upper member against Witnesses: whic theleentric acts in the closing .of the SCHAFEB, Y ox.
