Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1, 1913.
Application led January 3, 1913. Serial No. 739,950.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, KIRK H. WHITE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at- ()swego, county ofv Oswego, and State of New York, havevinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Union Suits, fully described and represented in the following specification and theaccompanying drawings, forming a part lof the same.
' of widely different shape.
My invention relates to union suits of that class having an elasticl band extending wholly or partially about the body, and the invention is especially intendedv for knittedi described 4and the features forming the in-` vention then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing- Figure 1 shows the'union suit in front plan, and Fig. 2 is a rear plan. Referring now'tothe drawing, A is the shirt portion, B the drawers portion, and
\ C, C the elastic band connecting the two.
The seat flap D is secured by button 1. The
garment is shown as of the same -general form as that of my Letters Patent No. 1,045,921, dated December 3, 1912, except Vfor the front portion C of' the elastic band, 40
but the invention may be applied to garments of other forms. i
Referring now to the elastic band, t-he portion .C-extending across the back of the garment is made' elastic vertically, thatis, when formed of knit material, wit-h the wales runningtransversely, to or around the garment, as shown.' The band-portion C on the front of the garment, however, is made separate from the back portion, and is made elastic horizontally, that is, when formed of knit material, with .the wales The lower edge of the band C on the back y of the garment is shown as inclined upward from the opposite sides of the garlnent and the posterior opening and seat-flap D extend upward-to the middle or highest portion of the band, as described and claimed in my Letters Patent No. 1,045,921, referred to, and this is .the preferred construction, especially in closed crotch suits, but the 4 'horizontal elastic band in the front of the garment may be used also in connection with elastic bands in which the back portion of the bandis arranged in any other common or` suitable manner, and the invention in its broadest aspect includes such constructions.
1. A. union suit having a bandextending around the garment, the
part of the band extending across the front two-part elastic ofthe garment being elastic horizontally or y transversely to the garment andv the 4part extending across the back of the garment 'being elastic vertically or longitudinally of the garment. y 2. A union suit having a two part elastic band extending around the garment, the
part of the band extending across the front ofthe garmentbeing elastic horizont-ally or transversely to` the garment and the part extending ,across the back of thengarment being elastic vertically or longitudinally of the garment and having its bottom edge inclined upward from the sides of the garment to the middle of the back, and the gar 'ment having aposterior opening and seat KIRK ril-WHITE.
