NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN RICHARDSON, OF HORSFORTH, ENGLAND.
APPAREL-SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 658,559, dated September 25, 1900.
Application filed April 5, 1900. Serial No. 11,628. (No model.)
To all whom, it ntay 00711067771.
Be it known that I, JOHN RICHARDSON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Long Row, Horsfort-h, near Leeds, in the county of York, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, (for which I have made application for a patent in Great Britain, No. 20,070, bearing date October 6,1899,) of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide means whereby cuffs may be attached to the sleevesof shirts, the attachment being effected by one of the parts being placed, when opened out, within an embracing fold upon the other part, the cuff being firmly gripped to the sleeve when both are bent around the wrist of the wearer, and this arrangement constitutes means whereby the cuff is prevented from becoming displaced upon the sleeve in ordinary wear. The attachment may be used in conjunction with studs, links, or the like,
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a'shirt-sleeve constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view with cuff in position, and Fig. 3 is a plan showing the shirt-sleeve opened out.
A is a flap attached to the end of the sleeve B, so as to form an embracing fold for receiving the cuff O. Attached to the end of the sleeve B is a tab D for retaining the sleeve in a closed position to suit the normal shape of the cuff.
The cufi C is applied to the shirt-sleeve B when the latter is open, and on closing it around the wrist the flap A clasps the cuff against the sleeve and securely retains it in position.
Studs E may be employed between the cuff O and the sleeve B.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a shirt,
the sleeves of which are each provided with a wristband and with a flap attached to the sleeve at the junction of, the wristband and sleeve and projecting forward toward the free edge of the Wristband, and between which flap and wristband the edge of the cufi is received, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN RICHARDSON.
