Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a part thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same in the line 00 ac, Fig. 1.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of one or more pockets, of a width equal to a number of'meshes, for the insertion of an elasticor other strap 011 a legging, said pocket being produced in the operation of knitting, and the strap being contained therein in such a manner that said strap is entirely concealed while the fabric of the article remains intact.
1n the drawing, the letter A designates a legging of that class usually worn by ladies and children, which is composed of a knitted fabric, and may be produced in any desirable manner. On such legging is formed a pocket, B, being in the position commonly selected for adjusting a garter, at or near the top of the legging, whichpocket is produced in the process or operation of knitting the fabric, of a width equal to a number of meshes.
In thus forming the pocket B an -e1ast;i c band orstrap, O, is inserted therein, such strap I act description thereof, which will enable those Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,446, dated January 13, 1874 application filed November 24, 1873. t
being introduced either during the time pocket is made or after the pocket has been: finished, so that the same is thereby concealed from view. l l
B these means anim isrigle garter is 5 duced, whereby a legging up on the limb of the wearer, and such garter being elastic it adapts itself to any size or mantubes in a stocking or other articles during the process of knitting, intowhich are insc 1 elastic cords, for such is old and well-know ng and is not my invention, wl11cl1, as beforestated,
consists in producing a transverse' pocketin a legging during the process of knitting, which pocket is of a width equal to two or moreof the meshes, and into which pocketis inserted an elastic garter.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure a 1 byLetters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a knitted legging provided with a transverse pocket,
producedin the process of-knitting, of a width l a equal to two or more of the meshes, for the re-I y r ception andretention of a concealed elastic I garter, as described.
