Be it known that I. Knxwirrn C. Hunt.- 13171. a citizen of the United States, residing at. lvionroe, in the county of Greene, State of \l'isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chair Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of the invention. such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to what I have termed baby entertainers that is a device intended for attachment to a childs chair, whereby the playthings may be keot at all times within easy reach of the child while he sits in the chair, thus keeping him amused without the attention of the mother or nurse.

The object of the invention resides in the provision of a chair attachment of the character referred to which may be easily applied to a chair, and which further includes a retaining or holding device for the playthings which will permit of the latter being moved by the child within the radius of his reach. but which will automatically return the playthings to a given position on the attachment when said playthings have been released from the grasp of the child.

Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the attachment, Fig. 2, an end view of same, Fig. 3, a front view of the attachment, Fig. 1, a section on the line d-i of Fig. 1, Fig. 5, a fragmental detail perspective view of one of the spring operated winding drums employed in the attachment, and Fig. 6, a detail perspective view of one of the sections of the casing of the winding drum.

Referring to the drawings the attachment is shown as comprising a playing board A adapted to be attached to a childs high chair so as to constitute what is commonly known as the table of the chair. This board A is Specification of Letters Patent. Pgflmi fit l litany,

provided with a predetermined playing area defined by longitudinal. ribs 10 and transverse ribs 11 suitably secured to the board and rising above the upper face thereof. The board A is provided outwardly of one of the transverse ribs 11 with a plurality of transversely alined openings 12. Depending from the lower side of the board A is a bracket 13 disposed in transverse alinement with the openings 12. in angle rod 1 1 has the free end of one of its arms secured in a suitable manner to the lower side of the board it while th other arm of said rod eX- tends transversely of the board beneath the openings 12 and has its free end supported in the bracket 13. Mounted upon the arm of the rod 1 1 which has its free end supported by the bracket 13 is a plurality of spring drums 13 corresponding in number to the openings 12. Adapted to be wound and unwound upon and from each of the drums B is a flexible connection 16 which extends through the adjacent opening 12 and has secured in a suitable manner to its free end a figure, toy or other device adapted to afiord amusement for a child.

Each of the drums B includes a casing formed of a pair of interlocking sections 17 and 18 which confine therein a reel member 19 rotatably mounted upon the rod 1 1. This reel member 19 is formed of a disk 20 rotatably mounted on the rod 1 1 and having a peripheral flange 21 disposed at right angles to the disk. Mounted upon the eripheral flange 21 is a plurality of U-shaped members 22 the arms of which form retaining fingers for the flexible connection 16 as the latter is wound upon or unwound from the flange 20. The reel member 19 has secured thereto one end of a spiral spring 23, while the other end of said spring is anchored to an inwardly directed extension 24 of the casing section 18. The casing section 17 is provided with an opening 25 through which the connect-ion 16 passes. It will be noted that as the connection 16 passes through the adjacent opening 12 the casing sections 1'? and 18 will be held against rotation during the unwinding of the connection 16 from the reel member 19 and that such unwinding will energize the spring 23 so that when the unwinding force is released :trom the connection 16 said spring will rotate the reel member 19 to wind the connection 16 thereon.
