To all whom may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT E. LU'rz, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filing Devices; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

r"his invention relates to a filing device, but is more particularly adapted for the til ing ot physicians prescriptions in drug stores in such manner t-hatthe said physi' cians prescriptions will be preserved and maintained vin an orderly, clean and sanitary condition.

The invention is also adapted to be used for the tiling and preservation ot any small papers, cards or the like, as will be at once apparent from the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. 1

iVith these objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction of the tiling device and particularly in the shape and formation of the tiling device and in the combination with the receptacle for receivcards or the like contained thereon.

Referringto the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the filing device housed within its casing. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the tiling device removed from the casing. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the tiling device illustrating its normal posit-ion within its casing and also illustrating a number of papers arranged thereon. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the tiling device showing the hinged arms swung down in position for ready examination or perusal of the papers, cards, etc., applied thereto, and Fig. 5 is a similar view illustrating the position the papers,y cards and the like assume on the hingedarms 'when said papers, cards and the like are being perused or examined. y

'1 indicates the device which comprises the tiling element 2 and its casing 3, lts casing heilig provided with a door 4 hinged at the top 5 of the casing, said door being of such a size as to properly close the entirle front of the casing in order to exclude dust from the papers, cards or the like arranged on the {iling element 2.

6 indicates a suitable board or base for the tiling device and 7 indicates the hinged arms which-receive the papers, cards and the like to be filed and preserved. The arms 7 are hinged to the board or base 6 preferably by staples 8 in such manner that the said arms 7 can be swung into positions illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5.

The arms 7 are preferably constructed of a single piece of wire, the transverse ptiirition 9 lying fiat upon the board or bases@ and -passing through the staples 8. The then bent rearwardly and normallyvforms a' base of support for the arms 7 when the said arms are 1n their normal position within the `casing 3 and as also illustrated in Fig. '3. `At the point 10 the arms'7 are bent upwardly and extend vertically to the bend or curve 11 at which point they extend forwardly and slightly downwardly as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. At 12 the arms are bent downwardly to form a regular curvel 13, the curve being reversed at 14 and terminating at 15.

Having thus vdescribed the several parts of the invention its operation is as follows: The physicians prescriptions, papers, cards or the like to be applied to the filing device are passed 0n the ends 15 of the arms 7 and are carried up and aro-und the said arms until they reach the vertical portions thereof at which time they fall into a Hat and sub stantially horizontal position as illustrated in Fig. 3. Any number of perscriptions, papers, cards or the like can be applied to the arms 7 in this manner until the entire vertical portions .of said arms are filled as will be at once apparent from the accompanying drawings. The tiling device being normally housedwwithin the casing 3 the same is simply withdrawn in order to apply v a paper, card orthe like to the tiling device vand the same is .again housed within the casing 3 to be kept in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition. When, however, it is desired to examine or peruse any or all of the papers, cards or the like contained on the arms 7 the tiling device is withdrawn from thecasing 3 and the arms 7 are thrown into position shown in Fig. 4.-, which position'does not disturb the papers, cards or the like onthe arms 7 and raises the flat base portions of the arms 7 into a substantially vertical position as is clearly shown lin 4. The prescriptions, papers, cards or the like contained on the arms 7 are then` passed from the base 6 of the filing device v up and around the arms 7 and drop into poi l0y 'and efficiently holds the papers, cards or-the sition illustrated in Fig. 5. until the perusal or examination of thepapers Vor the like is completed. As soon as this has been accomplished-thepapers, cards `orthe like lying in the forward port-ion of -f 'the arms 7 are raised and carried back upon the base 6 of the ling devicewhich is the fposition illustrated in Fig. 4, and when the examinationhasbeen completed the arms 7` are raised into their vertical or normal position as is illustrated in Fig. 3 in which-position the filing device is ready to be again insertedwithin the casing 3.

Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent of the United States is z* A device of the type described formed of lateral members or armsl and a support therefor, said armshaving upper free-end portions outstanding at right-angles therefrom and parallell to the longitudinal plane of said support, said outstanding free-end portions having rentrant, recurved terminals, said arms having lowerend rightangled portions, the outer terminals of whichl are connected by a transverse portion in continuation thereof, said connecting transverse portion being pivotally mounted upon said support at one end of the latter, said lower end right-angled portions resting vhorizont-ally upon said support.
