Be it known that I, HOWARD HOLMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at South N orwalk, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metal Hat- Markers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to markers for hat bands.

In carrying out my invent-ion it is my purpose to provide a metallic marker which indicates the size of the hat, and which is at tached to the meeting ends of the band to assist in retaining said meeting ends together.

With the above objects in view, the in vention consists in the novel construction of hat band markers and securers hereinafter full described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a hat showing my improved marker applied to the band thereof. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device applied to the meeting ends of a hat band. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a view of the same before attachment.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, and especially to Fig. 1 thereof the numeral 1 designates the hat within which is stitched an ordinary sweat band :2. The sweat band has its meeting edges secured together by the ordinary sticker 3. The numeral a des ignates the marker. This marker comprises a disk 5 upon which is stamped a number indicating the size of the hat to which the band is applied.

As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing the edges of the band A, are also connected through the medium of the usual sticker, and in this instance the marker B also comprises a disk having a suitable numeral thereon which indicates the size of the hat, the disk is formed with a single upstanding finger O, the latter having its ex- .tremity provided with angular arms D,

which project in opposite directions from the said finger. These arms are formed of bendable material and the extremities thereof are passed through the hat band adjacent the meeting edges thereof and are bent upon the outer faces of the band below the disk.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings the simplicity of the device as well as its advantages will, it is thought, commend themselves to those skilled in the art to which such inventions appertain, it being understood that the marker being formed of metal and being provided with the securing fingers cannot become detached and cause the annoyance incidental to the loose papers, labels or markers which are now commonly employed and which are adhesively connected with the bands.

Having thus described the invention what I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a combined hat mark and fastener for the meeting ends of the sweat band, comprising a disk having an indicating character, an elongated narrow strip formed integral with and projecting from the top of said disk and adapted to be bent so as to embrace the meeting edges of the sweat band, said strip terminating in oppositely disposed fingers arranged at right angles thereto and adapted to be inserted through said band and clenched against the outer face thereof behind said disk and at the opposite side of the meeting edges, substantially as and for the purpose described.
