CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar.4.,1913.
Application led March 20, 1911. Serial No. 615,584.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, AGUSTIN A. SosAYA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wagon Mound, in the county o-f Mora and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crib Attachments for Beds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in cribs, and in particular to a type which is adapted to be collapsed and folded under a bed.
The device provides an inexpensive, simple and reliable crib which may be quickly collapsed and slid under a bed, thus placing it entirely out of the way and in an inconspicuous place. The attachment can be readily applied to any bed.
With' the above and other objects in view,
this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to, be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical transverse sectionalview through a bed, showing an end elevation of the device in use; Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of. the device attached to a be and erected for use. 3 is a vertical transverse view of the evice folded and slid under a bed.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral 1 represents the side members or framework of an ordinary bed, supported by end pieces 2 of the bedstead. Two parallel bars 3 are suspended from the under side of the side members 1 by means of hangers 4 attached to their ends. Mounted beneath the two parallel bars 3 are two similar bars 5, which are suspended from the u per bars by means of angers 6, in whic rollers 7" to reduce friction and render the device easy to operate. A cross member 8 is provided at the inner end of the bars 3 to stren hen th'e structure, a similar cross bar 9 being fastened between vthe inner ends of the slidable bars 5.
A colla siblecrib is mounted on the outer ends of t e slidable bars 5, and consists of are mounted suitable legs,
the two end pieces 10, suitably'pivoted in brackets 11 on the outer ends of the slidable bars 5 and the side member 12, which is pivoted between the slidable bar. The side member 12 has two downwardly extending feet or legs 13, which, when the side member is raised. in a vertical position, provides a v'support for the outer end of the cot'. A bottom frame 14, to which is fastened a suitable .spring or mattress 15, is ivoted in brackets 16 on the inner face of tlie side member 12. Two angular brackets 17 are attached to the slidable bars 5 to provide a support for the side member 12 when the same is folded or collapsed, 'v
The operation of the device is as follows: Considering the slidable members in their extended position, the^ end pieces are first raised in a vertical position; the side member is then raised to the same position and slid inward toward the side of the bed until the hooks 18, which are attached to the sides of the bottom piece 14, engage with the side or edge of'the bed. The crib is then in a position ready for use, and the `members 10 and 12 are locked together by means of hooks, bolts,`or other suitable fasteners 19 fastened to the outer edges of the side member and end pieces.
When it isy desired to fold the crib, as during the day time, when it is not in use, the bolts 19 are unfastened, the bottom piece 14 raised so as to disengage the hooks 18 from the side of lthe bed, and the side member then folded down against the brackets 17. The end pieces are then-likewise folded down, and the entire structure may be slid on the hangers 6 underneath the bed and entirely out of sight.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claimas new and desire `to secure by Letters Patent is:
A crib bottom for bed-steads, com rising araiiel end bars slidable from un er the d-stead, crib ends ivotally secured to said end bars, ,a crib side pivotall secured between said end bars, said crib side being formed on one side of'its pivot points with at a distance above said pivot points, flanges mounted upon the free ends of said bottom for engagement with the bed-stead, whereby thevbottom is supported, means for locka' crib bottom pivoted to the crib side the outer extremities of ing thev crib ends to the crib side, and in- In testimony whereof I aix my signature wardly extending brackets secured to said in presence of two witnesses. end bars for engagement with the crib bottom When the attachment is in its folded AGUSTIN A' SOSAYA' 5 position, saidbrackets also supporting the Witnesses:
crib ends and side when said members are CHAs. R. KEYES,
