WILLIAM WACO GRIGSBY, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WALTER SCOTT WILKINSON, OF NEW ORLEANS,
LOUISIANA.
CRIB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 6, 1906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WAOO GRIGsBY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Crib, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates, more definitely stated, to crib attachments to bedsteads, and has for its object an improved attachment of this character which shall be simple in construction, adapted for ready attachment and detachment, and adapted when detached to be folded into compact condition facilitating its being shoved under the bedstead or stored away ready for use.
The invention consists of the special construction, arrangement, and combination of parts shown in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my invention in use. Fig. 2 is an edge view of my crib detached from the bedstead and in folded condition. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the hooking means whereby the crib is supported and secured on a side rail of the bedstead, and 4 is a view illustrating another form of hooking means.
In the practice of my invention I employ two end pieces A and a side B, constructed of horizontal and vertical spaced wires or rods, substantially as shown in Fig. 1. The side B has hinge-acting connection C at its opposite ends to the outermost vertical rods of the end pieces A, substantially as shown. A bottom D is provided, consisting of parallel rods D, held spaced apart by end bars D Support for a mattress and bedclothing is had by means of wires E, crossing from one to the other side of the bottom, secured to its side and end rods, and arranged crossing each other at an angle substantially as shown in Fig. 1. The outermost vertical rods F of the end pieces A are extended, forming legs F.
The referred form or means for attachment 0 my crib to the side rails of a bedstead is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3. It consists of a hooking device having one end Gr bent outwardly at G and with the portion G arranged in a socket G on the inner end of the lower horizontal rod of the end pieces A. The socket G is provided with a set-screw G whereby the hooking device may be secured at necessary adjustment. The hook device G should have a covering Gr of any suitable material and its inner end be bent, as at G, (see Figs. 3 and 4,) adapted to extend under the bedstead-mattress H, and thereby be retained in supporting position of the crib attachment.
The crib-bottom D may be secured in place by any suitable means, whose referred form consists of hooked extensions 3 at the ends of its side bars D, .the hooked devices being bent, adapted for engagement with the lower horizontal bar of the end pieces A, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of my drawings.
Another form of the hooked device G is shown in Fig. 4, being a simple extension of the lower horizontal bar of the crib end pieces.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A folding crib consisting of end pieces and a side secured together, by hinge-acting joints, a detachable bottom with devices whereby it is supported in place, supportinglegs at the outer end of the end pieces, and hooked devices at the inner ends of the end pieces, adapted for engagement with the side rails of a bedstead and adapted to extend under the bedstead-mattress, between the latter and its support, substantially as described.
2. A folding crib consisting of end pieces and a side secured together, by hinge-acting joints, a detachable bottom with hooked devices whereby it is supported in place, supporting-legs at the outer end of the end pieces, and adjustable hooked devices at the inner ends of the end pieces, adapted for en gagement with the side rails of the bedstead, the hooked devices being elongated adapted to extend under the bedstead-mattress, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a folding crib employing ends, a side, a detachable bottom and suitable legs, the ends of the crib having sockets, as described, of hooked devices with their outer portions or ends bent adapted to be arranged in said sockets and their inner portion or ends bent adapted to extend under the bedstead-mattress, and means on the sockets for securing the hooked devices in an adjustment, substantially as set forth.
WILLIAM WAOO GRIGSBY.
