Description

J, V. MEYBRING. G AND HOLDING ATTACHMENT F OR TRUNKS.
CLOTHES GOMPRESSIN Patented Now 2611912.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 26, 1912.
UNTE STA JULIUS V. MEYERIN G, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 GRUBE-MEYERING TRUNK ('30., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION.
CLOTHES COMPRESSING AND HOLDING ATTACHMENT FOR TRUNKS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed Ju1y 26, 1912.
Patented Nov. 26, 1912. Serial No 711,623.
To all whom it may conce n." V Be it known that I, JULIUS V.;MEYERING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, Clothes Compressing and Holding Attachmentfor Trunks, of which the following is a specification. a
My invention is peculiarly adapted for use in connection with so-ca'lledwardrobe trunks, but itniay also be conveniently used in connection with suit-cases, packing chests, ordinary trunks, or any similar receptacles. It'has heretofore been customary'to provide trunks and suit-cases with straps varranged in the interior thereof, adapted to cles packed therein,
be drawn tightly over clothes or other artifor the purpose of compressing and .holding the same in place, at such straps have a tendency to wrinkle clothing held thereby and'are not capable of being nicely adjusted and arranged. It is' to take the place of such straps that my invention is adapted.
I have illustrated and described my invention as arranged in the inside of the top of atrunk, but it'is obvious that it may be arranged in the inside of the bottom of the trunk or in any of the other receptacles above notherwise,
mentioned.
In .theaccompanying a view in perspective 0 a trunk opened, in the inside of the top of which my device is arranged; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a detailed view in perspective of the portion of the device where its two sections are connected so as to slide one upon the other.
Similar "letters refer to similar parts through the several views.
Four bars, or strips, having teeth formed on one edge thereof, are secured, by rivets two on each side of the interior -;the top of the trunk, their toothed sides extending toward the ends of the top of the trunk. Into the teeth of these toothed bars fit the ends of the two rods 6 and 0, which are placed one at either end of the cornpressor. Near each end of the rod 6 1s firmly attached at right angles to said rod a strip 03, and near each end of the rod 0 is similarly bars 03 are connected by the crosssbars f and g, and the bars e are connected by the crossattached a bar or strip e. Thehave invented a new and useful,
gnawing, Figure 1 is following manner:
bars h and Thecross-bars connected by the bar 7', an
f and g are and the cross-bars it and 9' and the other consisting of the rod 0' and the bars or strips 6, it, 2' and k. two sections are attached to each other.so that they will slide one upon the other in the A slot Z is formed in each of the bars d and each of the bars 6 has attached to it a U-shaped piece at which extends through said slot Z and has the outwardly extending flanges a. bearing against the portions of the upper surface of the bar (Z adjacent to said slot Z in such manner that the bars d and e may slide one upon the other as far as permitted by the the slot Z. Where the bars j and upon the other two springs 0 are attached, one end of each spring being attached to the bar j and the other end of each spring being attached to the bar is.
All of the parts'of the device may be made of metal, or any other suitable material, but I prefer to have the bars (Z, 6, f, g, h, 2', j and is in the form of thin stri wood and to have all vice made of metal.
It will be apparent from the above description that by pulling the rods 6 and 0 in opposite directions one portion of the 70 rest one other parts of the de- These length of i ps of framework ofmy device will slide upon the other, permitting the releasing of the ends of the bars 6 and c from engagement with the teeth of the toothed strips a, so that the bars 6 and 0 may be moved downwardly or upwardly along said toothed strips in position for engagement with such other teeth of said toothed strips as may be desired, then on releasing the outward pressure on the bars Z) and 0-.the two sections of the device will be drawn together by the springs 0 so that the ends of the bars I) and 0 will again engage such teeth as may be desired on the toothed strips a.
conveniently packed and the trunk. I
It will be obvious that various modifications'in construction'may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, the vessential features of which are the extensible frame and means for releasably enheld in place in In this manner clothing or other articles may be firmly and gaging said frame to the inside of the Walls of the trunk so that the frame may be adjusted Vertically in the trunk. v
Having now described my invention, what I claim as-new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A clothes holding and compressing at tachment for trunks and suit cases consisting ofa plurality of toothed strips attached to the inside of the walls of the trunk or case and an extensible frame composed of two sections slidably connected by means of slots formed in one section and corresponding flanged members projecting from the other section through said slots, said frame having members adapted to engage in the teeth of said toothed strips and when extended Withdrawing said engaging members from engagement; with said toothed strips, whereby said frame may be adjusted vertically in said trunk or case.
.2. A clothes holding and compressing at tachmentfor trunks and suit cases consisting of a plurality of toothed strips attached to the inside ofthe walls of the trunk or case, an extensible frame composed of two sections slidably connected by means of slots formed in one section and corresponding flanged members projecting from the other section through said slots and a spring connecting said sections and adapted to draw said sections together after they have been extended, said frame having members adapted to engage in the teeth of said toothed strips and when extended withfrom engagement with said toothed strips, whereby saidframe may be adjusted vertically in said trunk or case.
