Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 24, i906.
Original application filed November 28, 1904, Serial No. 234,579. Divided and this application filed January l5, 1906. Serial To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD B. WESTON, a
citizen of the United States, residing in Day- ,upon which the boxes -or receptac es for the merchandise may rest, so that the boxes or cans from which it is desired to remove some of the contents may be drawn out and held and supported at the edge of the shelf while the contents are remove In my pending application for Letters Patent, Serial No. 234,579, filed November 28, 1904, I have shown and described a'construction of slide attachments as apply to solid Wooden shelves, and in said a plication I also illustrated the present inventlon as applied to open metallic shelves, and this application is now filed as a divisional application thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a persipective view of m metallic can-rack or splayshelves wit sliding attachments in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one Of the slid es.
1 1 and 2 2 are metallic side standards upon which are secured in an suitable way any desired number of metal ic frames 3 3, provided with cross-braces 4 4 to brace and strengthen the framework and to form open shelves for the support and display of the merchandise, which 1s itself packed in cans or boxes.
5 5 are open metallic frames of a width and length to completely fill the shelves when in place and constructed of the size to conform to the size of the cans Or boxes, so that they will just fit within these frames 5 and completely fill the Shelf from end to end. In the drawings I have illustrated three of these sliding frames 5 for each shelf; but it will be understood that any number of frames can be employed, the number depending on thev size and shape Of the cans. Secured to the rear side of each of the frames 5 are de Iending metallic loops 6 6, provided with s ots'7 7, through which pass the cross-bars 4 4. In order to hold the cans in place, the frames 5 are provided withflat bars 8 8, running from front to rear of the frames. The loops 6 engage the cross-bars 4 permanently, so that .the frames 5 5 become a part of the shelves, but adapted to slide transversely of same and being held in place by loops 6 6. The
'sides of the several frames on each shelf contact with each other, so that there is a snug fit, and the frames entirely ll the shelves, as heretofore described. In order that they may be readily drawn out, I provide a lingerpull 9 on each shelf.
Inasmuch as the cans or boxes can readily be Opened without drawin them out when located on the top shelf, have illustrated this shelf with flat cross-bars instead of on edge., so that the flat cross-bars will readily support the packages. When desired, however, the top shelf can be provided with my Slide attachment, and in that event the crossbars will preferably be turned o n edge. It will also be evident that the cross-bars of all the shelves may be varran ed flat, and in that event the loops on the s iding frames will be constructed with openings to correspond.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
sisting of an' open framework, with transverse cross-bars, and frames located in said shelves with loops secured to the frames and embracing said transverse cross-bars to permit transverse adjustment of the frames.
l 2. In a display-rack, a metallic shelf consisting of an open framework, with transverse cross-bars, and a series of movable frames, with attachments secured to the 1. Ina display-rack, metallic shelves, con# frames and en aging the transverse cross- IOO IIO
frames, with loops secured to the frames and permanently engaging the transverse crossbars to secure the frames thereto While permitting transverse adjustment thereof.
5. In a display-rack, in combination With e shelf, a series of movable frames taking up the entire length ol' the shelf and of e size to receive the cans to be displayed 'hleom with cross-bers for the shelf, and loops on the frames for securing same to the transverse cross-bars, whereby each frame may -be drawn out independently of the others and held in s substantially horizontal position.
6. In e display-rack, metallic shelves, consisting of en open framework, With transverse cross-bers arranged on edge, end frames located on said shelves with loops secured to the 'frames and embracing said transverse cross-bers permanently to secure the 4frernes to the shelves While permitting transverse edjustmenh EDWARD B WESTON
