A PATENT @PUCH JOHN L.: FLANNERL'O'F enfonce, inmNois, AssIGNoR To THE BoYE NEEDLE Y l COMPANY, orV CHICAGO, immers, a ConroRATrON or rLLrNois.
CABINET.
Application led June 20, 1921.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOI-IN L. FLANNERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented anew and useful improvement in Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention: relates particularly to a cabinet adapted for the purpose of storing and displaying flexible curtain rods, and other small articles of merchandise.
The primary object is to provide a simple and cheap cabinet which is well adapted for the purpose. Y
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. l represents a plan view of the im proved cabinet, showing the closure in standing position; Fig. 2, a transverse vertical section taken as indicated at line 2 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3, a broken vertical section taken as indicated at line 3 of Fig. l, theV closure being shown in closed position in full lines and in open position in dotted lines.
The cabinet comprisesa casing A which preferably is in the form of a rectangular box; and a closure B which is connected by pivots l with the side walls of the box adjacent one end thereof. The box is provided with a U-form partition 2 having a curved web portion 2d and divergent side walls '2b. The Uform partition is' so lo cated as to provide a space 3 between the web 2a and one end wall 4 of the box, and to provide spaces 5 flanking the Ueform member, i. e., located between the walls 2b and the side walls 6 of the box. The walls 2l are divergent and extend to the end wall 7 of the box.
The U-shaped compartment is divided into two compartments S and 9 by a transverse partition l0, the bar marked 10a of which is extended across the spaces 5 flanking the U-shaped compartment. Depending from the extensions of the bar l()aN are vertical bars or separators 10b separated by spaces 11. Through the spaces 1l may be extended the end portions of flexible curtain rods 1:2, a. few of which are indicated by dotted lines in Fig. l. The intermediate portions of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 7, 1922.
Serial No. 478,860.
curtain rods are curved about the curved web portion 2a of the U-shaped compartment. In practice, curtain rods are inserted until the spaces 11 are filled. The U-shaped com partment serves as a form about which the curtain-rods may be curvedgand the crossbars 10a serve to confine the curtain rods in nested position. The vertical bars or partitions l()lo serve to keep the groups of curtain rods separated to a certain extent, so that removal of some of the curtain rods, when desired, may be easily effected. The arrangement provides for confining the curF tain rods in such manner that they will not become entangled and displaced.
The closure B is proportioned to cover only half of the cabinet, the free edge portion resting upon the cross-bar 10a when in its closed position. The pivotal edge of the closure is disposed between the side walls 6 of the box and adjacent the end wall 4. When the closure is in standing position, it inclines rearwardly and upwardly, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 3. vIf desired, the closure may have secured to its inner surfaces curtain rod brackets (not shown) with curtain rods stretched thereon for display purposes. The compartments 8 and 9 may serve to hold the curtain rod brackets, and other small articles of merchandise, if desired.
The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible in view of the prior art.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A cabinet comprising a box having therein a U-shaped wall with a space extending about said U-shaped wall and disposed between the same and the end wall and the side walls of said box, bars flanking said U-shaped wall and separators disposed beneath said bars.
2. A cabinet comprising a box, a U-form wall having a web portion separated from one end of the box by a space and having side port-ions separated from the side walls of the box by spaces, a partition extending crosswise between the lateral portions Iof the I Wall;
U-shaped Wall, and bars extending across the spaces flanking the sides of the U-shaped spaces anking the U-shaped form, separators beneath said bars, and a closure 10 pvtally {'molinted adjacent lthe "end Wall mentioned, said closure being adapted to as- Sume a standing, rearwardly-inclined position, :and "thing, serre LasV "a mounting for articesbni'spay.-
