LUNCH BOX. 7 APPLICATION FILED mum, 1911,

BY 7m ATTORNEYS V CARL CHRISTIAN, OF CLEBURNE, TEXAS.
I LUNCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
Application filedMarch 31, 1911. Serial No. 6 18,080.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL CHRISTIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleburne, in the county of Johnson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful-Improvements in Lunch-Boxes,
' of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in'lunch boxes, and its object is to provide a lunch box, having a novel and efficientmeans by which the cover may be securely fastened to the box.
The object of the invention is more specifically to provide a lunch box, having its cover secured in place by a latch fastening,
the walls of the box furnishing resiliency to hold the latch normally closed. Finally the object of the invention is to provide a lunch box, having a strong and durable construction, and adapted to protect its contents thoroughly against dust and dirt, or injury of any sort.
With these objects in View, my invention has relation to certain novel features of the construction, an example of which is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
A perspective View of the lunch box; is shown in the drawing, the cover thereof being shownseparate from the box to give additional clearness. I
Referringnow to the letters which are employed on the drawing to designate the various parts, the letter A denotes the side or wall of the box, which will preferably have an oval form, and bemade' of light springy wood. At one extremity of the box a post B is mountedupon the wall A,'the
.lower portion of said post being bifurcated to receive said wall. The upper extremity of the post B projects slightly above the upper edge of the wall A, and is provided with a pair. of oppositely disposed grooves C coincident with the upper edge of the wall A, a neck D being .formedbetween the two grooves. 'The other extremity of the box carries a similar post E, having itslower portion bifurcated to receive the Wall A,
and having its upper extremity projecting slightly above the edge of the Wall; A latch-head F is provided upon the inner face of the post E at. its'extremity.
The lunch box cover G, which oval in name to this specification in the form to correspond with the shape of the lunch box is provided with grooves H at each extremity, one of said grooves being adapted to receive the neck D of the post B, and the other to receive the post E beneath the latch-head F. In placing the cover upon the box, the neck D is first made to receive one of said grooves in the cover. The other extremity of the cover is then forced down upon the beveled surface of the'latch-head, and the resiliency of the wall A permits the latch-head to molnentarily yield, permitting the cover to pass down into contact with the rim of the box. The resiliency of the wall A will then'throw the latch-head back to its normal position, locking the cover in place. In removing the cover the handle thereof may be gripped with one hand,
while the other hand is employed to release moved, and afl'ords secure protection to the contents of the box.
All of the parts above specified will preferably be constructed of wood, but it is obvious that other suitable material may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention. It will also be apparent that the ,use to which the device may be applied is not limited to lunch boxes, but is applicable to receptacles of various sorts.
What I claim is:
' In a device of the characterdescril'ied, the combination with a receptacle, having a curved resilient wall, of posts oppositely mounted on said wall, one of which is provided with a neck, and the other with a latch-head, and a closure having opposite grooves in its rim, said grooves being adapted to engage the two posts at the neck of one and beneath the latch-head of the other. In testimony whereof I have signed my presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL CHRISTIAN. Witnesses:
W. B. FEATHERSTON, J12, E. J. CAMPSEY.
