Description

THOMAS DONATO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 103,854, dated June?, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Be it known that I, THOMAS DONATO, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Window-Blind; and I do lhereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable Others skilled in the ait to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speeication.
Figure 1 represents a face view of my improved window-blind.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same, taken on`the plane of the line xx, iig. 1.
Stimilar letters'of reference indicate corresponding par s.
This invention relatesto a new manner of securing pivoted slats in the frames of window-blinds.
`The invention has for its object to provide a more secure fastening for the slats, and, at the same time, greater facility for removing the same for repair.
The invention consists in scouring each slat A, by means of separate tenons a a, to two vertical bars, B and O, the said bars being pivoted, near their upper and lower ends, to small leversD D, that are pivoted, in the centers, to the frame E of the blind. The slats are thus not pivoted directly to t-he frame, but are braced and stiffened bythe bars B C, which are pivoted to the levers D.
The mainl advantage of this arrangement is, that that the slats can be readily removed for repair without taking the whole blind-frame apart.
The pivots b of the bars B O can be readily reached, and, as I prefer to make them in the form of screws, they can be removed when desired.
When the bars are removed with the slats, they can be easily taken apart. l
Another advantage of this arrangement is, that mosquito-nets may be readily secured to the inner l edges of the b ars B or C without interfering with the adjustment of the slats.
The bars B C may, however, when desired, be concealed and covered by ornamental moldings, which are fastened tothe frame A.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desirel to secure by Letters Patent- The bars B C and pivot-edlevers D, combined with the blind-slats A, which have double tenons at both ends, as set forth, all arranged as specified.
Witnesses: THOMAS DONATO.
vGIUOSEPPE DONATO,
GEO. W. MABEE.
