Letters Patent No. 99,756, dated February 15, 18110.
*Man- IMPROVENIENT IN SLATEFRAME$ The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known tlxat'l, EBENEZERBUTLER, of Salina, county of Onondaga, State of New York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Slate-Frames; and' IV do hereby declare that the following is a vfull, clear., and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention consists in forming from the slatefr'ame itseland on its outer part, bars or rails, capable and for the purpose of being wound or covered with list', cloth, oi' other proper material, by means of which the application of said material to the slateframe is more neatly made and the cornersl and edges ofV the frame more completely protected than heretofore.
In accompanying drawlngs- D D is an lordinary school-slate frame, in each section` of which, by means of a circular saw o1' otherwise, I make a slot, at proper distance from the edge, nearly from end to end, leaving` only sufcient roorn to preserve the strength of the corners or joints c f the frame.
By 'this means I form, from said section, and consequently, when the frame is together, from the frame itself, and on its outer part, bars or rails, as shown at S S, and that are capable of being used in manner as hereinbefore specified.
These frames are manufactured and sold without the list or covering, that heilig applied by and to suit the taste of nal purchaser.
I disclaim the application of 4list or like material to frame of a slate in any manner or for any purpose whatever, the same having been in common use for many yearsw V I disclaim slots in a slate-frame unless extending nearly the entire length of the sections of said frame," and used for the purpose of creating hars or rails on said sections.
