FLEXIBLE METALLIC FINGER-COT.
" To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JOHN N. SKAoes, s
citizen of the United States, residin at.
Albion,- in the county of Boone and biot c of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flexible Metallic Finger-Cots; and I do declare the following to be 2i full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the ert to which it apperteins to make and use the some. y
This invention relates to on improved flexible metallic thumb or finger cot or stall.
which is especially designed for a corn husker. v v
The ob ect of the inventlon is to provide a.
device of this chsrscts which is flexible,
strong, durable, and omfortsble to the wearer and which may be employed for numerous purposes, such as for handling brick,
. hnslzing corn, and for other uses in'which the hands need protection.
With this and other ob ects in view, the invention consists of certain .lnevel features of construction, and combination and errimgernent of. parts as will be more fully de scribed and claimed. p
In the eccompanyin drawings: Figure 1 is s perspective view o thisimproved device sppiied to a hen-dyFig. 2 is an enlarged ,de: toil perspective View of the lower portion of the stall to which the wristis connected; Fig. 3 is a'siniilar view showing a slightl modified means of connecting the wrist ban In the embodiment illustrated, a. thumb or finger stsll 1 is shown composed oil a. metsllic fabric constructed" oi small metallic links 2 which are connected to form a flexible fabric of unusual siren h and durability and one which is easy on t e wearers thumb or finger to which it maybe applied.
As here shown, these links are im-ode in the form of U-shaped members having the free ends of the. legs thereoif bent to form eyes, said legs being bowed outwardly at their ctherjends to form notches 2*. The eyes of said membersengage the cross bars of the adjacent members or links, the two legs of one link engaging the cross bars of the two adjacent links, preferably at the corners or notched ends formed by the outward bending of the legs of the links, as is shown clearly in.Fi 3. These links are connected to form a tu ular finger receiving member 3 having a ring 4: arranged at the Specification of Letters mm.

closed end thereoiof snfli'cient size to perini the tip of the finger to project slightly tberetlgrou'gh and thereby prevent the end. of the nail from coming in contact with the metallic covering and avoid injury thereto. An elongated extension 5 is "formed atthe base or open end of said member 3 and is of sul'llcint width to extend over the back of link at the other end thereof.
It will be obvious that this stall or cot may be worn either over a glove or. directly applied to the hand without e glove as it is so constructed that it is noticarsh on the flesh of the wearer, the free loose ends of the links 2 which compose the open end of ilie stall being adapted to bend ontwsri'lly and form a flange like protection for the finger to which it is applied and which is especially advantageous when the device is epplied to the thumb and be cc revents the fabrics this point from embed ing itself in thc'iiesh of the wearer. v
The construction of the stall of flexibly united Usheped links allows perfect freedom of the thumb or finger to which it is applied and provides the requisite roughness on its'outer face necessary to grip the basic when the device is employed for husking corn. Ween worn over a glove, it greatly prolongs the life of the glove.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention claimed.
I claim as my invention:-
A metallicthumb stall composed of a plurslity of flexiblyconnected Ushsped links, the free ends of the legs of said links being bent to form eyes which are engaged withvadjacent links, and the other ends of said legs having notches at their in uction with the cross bars to receive the eyes of'adjacent links, the links at the open end of the stall being free to swing outwardly to form a flange like protection for the thumb of the wearer, and means for securing said stall in operatlve posltlon.
In testimony whereof have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witmasses.-
JOHN N.v SKAGGS. Witnesses: GEO. E. GRAHAM, W. S. P111011.
