JOSEPH FREDRICK WRIGHT, onciiicmivnrronro.
a all whom z'zfi may coacern: p I g 7 Be it known that I, Josnrn: F. VRI'GHT, a citizen of the United States, residing fitiSClIlcinnati, in the*county of Hamilton and State,
of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Mud, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention has reference to that; style of mutt in which the body is of anundulating shape, that is the upper part or edge is curved on an arcof much lessfldiameter tha-n that on which the lower edge is curved and my said invention has for its object to provide an improved construction of muif of the general style stated "in" which is included a form of side extensions that are new especially adapted to serve as wrist warmers andfor receiving the hands and lowerp'arts of the arms while the'latter hang from the body in the natural position.
Another object of my invention is to provide an improved construction of muff of the kind mentioned, of a simple and economical form and which is especially. well adapted for childrens uses and with side wings or wristlets extensions so projected from the body proper that cords or ribbons for hang:
ping the mufi from theneck may be readily and securely attached to 'or around the said With the above objects in view, myinv'eir tion consists in the peculiar construetionpf mufi hereinafter explained-in detail, specifically pointed out in theappended cla1m and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View ofsmyimproved mufl. 1 v Fig. 2 isa diagrammatic-plan view that illustrates the back and front or pattern members. i
illustrates a slightly modified form of the pattern members hereinafter specifically referredto.
In carrying out my invention, I form the muff body of two like pieces or pattern 1116111? members of the muif, and while I have not so shown it,inn1aking up the complete niuflt', the lining pieces are cut on the same pattern or shape. T
Each of the sections 12., in my construc- 7 tion of mufl, are shaped as diagrammatically shown in Fig. 2, 'by reference to which it will be observed the sections each include Patented "A r. 8, 1919. a Application filed May 23, 1913. scheme; 236,166.
a a body a' that embraces all of the pattern within the upper restricted co'ncaved edge 3, a th'ejlo-wer convexed edge 4-, and the opposite endsindicatedby the dottedlines that extend from the terminals 40-4L0 of the bottomv edge and the ends 3()-80 ofthe upper concaved edge 3, as'is clearly shown in Fig. 2.
At the upper opposite edges, the pattern pieces include lateral or wing-like'extensions 6+6 of substantially triangular" sha 3e,
whereby to provide restricted throat-l keopenings 7 -77 that project substantially V61;
' tical to the body and thereby provide for in-' serting the hands and the lower portions'of natural osition from the body, in distinct on to ending the fore-arms toward each other,as is'necessary when usingthe convene lar wing-like extensions 6' is that the said-t extensions6 -6 constitute wrist warmers, as. they 'providexfor a close fitting about the wrist when the hands are inserted partly into;
the muflfithereby providing for thedesired use of thehandsand the wristxwithoutre strictingthe' use of the mud for carrying the articles such as are usually held therein.
I By forming the extensions 6 as shown and described, they provide for convenient points forattaching a hanger cord or ribbon 8,,as
is clearly shown in Fig. 1 and, by reason of the abrupt joining ofthe edges 6Q".60 of the rextensionswith the lower curvededges 40-510- of the body, after the Wrists vhave been inserted into the wristlet p0rtions,*any movement or bending of. theyhands' or: the wrists tends to cause the muff body to buckle or crease, inwardly in the direction indicated 7 1 by thearrows wa2'on Fig.2 and thereby. Fig. 3 is a diagrammantic plan vlew that causes the. said wrislet portions" to the: more tightly bind about the. wrists and avoid any.v r
tendency of the side openings to spread. 1 1
While the'curv'ed design ofthe upper edge indicates a preferred. shape for the smaller f sizes of limits, for the larger sizes of mufis the said upper edge may be shaped as shown in Fig. 3, and when thus made greater elongation of the extensions 6-6 is .pro-' vided.
When the upper edge is formed, as indi-' in 70 p the armsinto'the muff, while hanging in the 7' 2. i i v 1,300,088
