Description

"nttd (tatta @wat @Mitica Letters Patent No. 103,436, dated May 24, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN' TATT-ING-SVHUTTLS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of thsame.
To all whontt may concern:
Be it known that I, BENEVILLE L. FnTHnnonF, of. Tamaqua, in the county of Schuylkill and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and fusefnl Improvements in Batting-Shuttle;l and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of-a tatting-shuttle, as will be hereinafter fully set forth. I In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in whichy Figure 1 is a perspective view of the shuttle, and
Figure 2 is a. longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Arepresents the shuttle proper, provided with a tapering end with hook at the point.
At the base of the tapering end is formed a bearing, a, for one end of the shuttle-case B, the balance of the shuttle Aforming the bobbin on which the thread is Wound.
C is the heel, which, when screwed into its place on the other end of the shuttle A,-holds the other end of the casing B in place; and upon the surface of said 'heel C is the tension-pad or wheel i, which operates on the inner side of the case.
The case B is provided with a longitudinal slot, b, for the thread to pass from the shuttle.
'lhe'revolving or movable case gives the operator better control of the thread. By taling hold of the case, and revolving the shuttle with the thumb and finger of the other hand, the thread is easily returned onto the shuttle when stopping, or when from any other causemore is run off than is required.
The tension-pad t" may he placed at either end of the shuttle.
Having thus fully described my invention, y l What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe combination of the shuttle A, heel C, tensionpad li,.and slotted revolving case B, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the .purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of March, 1870.
' B. L. FETHEROLF.
